"I am just a common man who is true to his beliefs." (John Wooden)

Evoking days gone by when coaches were respected as much for their off-court performances as for their success on the court, Wooden presents the timeless wisdom of legendary basketball coach John Wooden.

In honest and telling passages about virtually every aspect of life, Coach shares his personal philosophy on family, achievement, success, and excellence. Raised on a small farm in south-central Indiana, he offers lessons and wisdom learned throughout his career at UCLA, and life as a dedicated husband, father, and teacher.

These lessons, along with personal letters from Bill Walton, Denny Crum, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Bob Costas, among others, have made Wooden: A Lifetime of Observations and Reflections on and off the Court an inspirational classic.

Gold

Like Jesus, John Wooden knew that the Secret of Life was measuring YourSelf against Eternal Spiritual Standards/Principles...rather than "worrying" or focusing on other people (99.9% of whom are lost and all watching eachother for answers)

How to be a better person

I enjoyed this book. Wooden’s objective in writing this book seems to be less about basketball and much more about how to be a better human.

awesome book on leadership and principles

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. John Wooden's "old school" mentality and principles are timeless. Although our times are changing the one thing that should always remain is our basic respect for ourselves and one another. I am looking into Coach Woodens other books to listen to.

Must read

There aren’t many people nowadays with as much character and style as John Wooden. I deeply respect this man and what he created. This book would be something that I would help to me guide in raising my kids and just use to remind me on how to keep being a good person. Thank you, Coach.

More than basketball

Amazing book about life and leadership. I love John Wooden's definition of success. I am glad to know it took him 14 years to formulaize his definition.
