Acerca de esta escucha

"How to find the right words to frame this horror? How to understand why men do what they do to women? How to comprehend this malign force that seems to seep from the male psyche and infect us all?... That is the central hope, the appeal, embedded in this book: that other men might join me in this investigation and ruthless self-interrogation - and in doing so, become part of the change that is so urgently required."

In February 2018, the Good Weekend cover story by David Leser "Women, Men and the Whole Damn Thing" had an extraordinary response. David received hundreds of personal messages from readers around the world - both women and men - urging him to expand his story. Here is that audiobook: a brilliant, impassioned, unflinching account of the firestorm of #MeToo, how we got there, and where we must now go.

In this essential and incisive investigation, Leser unearths the roots of misogyny, its inextricable links to the patriarchy, and how history brought us to the #MeToo movement and the wave of incandescent female rage that is sweeping the world. Crucially, he also interrogates his own psyche, privilege, and culpability as he bears witness to the "collective wound of the world" and asks how we can move toward healing and profound and permanent change.

One of the best books I’ve read in the space. Exceptionally well researched and presented. Poignant, insightful, powerful. High recommend.

Excellent

Very good for a male author on the subject. I learned so much about the Me Too movement as well.

Surprisingly well researched!

Maybe, in the unfathomable reaches of the male psyche, men have always been frightened of women - or at least frightened of the feminine qualities within themselves: those qualities that point inwards, to that place where our deepest feelings are lodged, but which centuries of masculine culture have repressed or removed.
Perhaps, this is the place where violence against women begins: in the shutting down of this inner world where relationships and connection truly reside, because the models we've been given for manhood fail to recognise a fundamental truth, which is that nothing meaningful in life ever happens without the ability to be vulnerable.”

Absolutely mind-blowing book. Incredibly well-written and narrated. Thorough, in depth, multi-layered, compassionate. So, so good. This should be a must read/listen in late school years. I will listen to this again, for sure! Thank you David Leser for an amazing work.

A must listen! For men, women and all

I was skeptical of this book being worn by a man, but turns out, this book is really about men as much as it is about women (as the title implies). This should be at the top of the reading list for parents raising sons. Hard to stomach at times, but it is extraordinarily comprehensive and provides great insight into the enormity and historical context of the current gender situation and the role culture and parenting plays in creating men who either respect or don’t respect women. His recommendation for moving forward is very logical.

Must read for parents of sons
