Yukon ist der Platz, von wo aus die Goldgräber in die Wildnis aufbrechen, auf die Suche nach Gold. Es ist Winter. Jack Convey trifft Alex Larsen, einen Bekannten seines verstorbenen Vaters, und mit ihm und Kelly macht er sich schließlich auf den Weg auf die Suche nach seines Vater Goldmine. Jack entdeckt ein Wolfsjunges, das in eine Falle gerät und von Indianern befreit wird. Die Indianer nehmen das Wolfsjunge mit, geben ihm den Namen Wolfsblut und ziehen es wie einen Hund auf. Im Frühjahr trifft Jack wieder auf Wolfsblut und muss entsetzt mitansehen, wie er an Hundekämpfen teilnehmen muss. Er kann das schwer verletzte Tier gerade noch mitnehmen und gesund pflegen. Doch die Hundequäler sind ihm schon wieder auf den Fersen...
