  • Gabbie Hanna's Pattern of Anti-Blackness | Your Mental Health Doesn't Excuse Your Racism
    Sep 6 2022

Gabbie Hanna has a long track record of creating anti-Black content for engagement. Recently during a public manic state, she had several racist outbursts on TikTok. Her fans are defending her right to not apologize, due to her mental state, and that excuse is not going to fly. Gabbie herself has returned to the platform and hasn't properly addressed these comments. In fact, since returning, she has stated that racism is an issue she's *very* passionate about. If that's truly the case, she can start at home by addressing her own anti-Black behavior.

    TW: r*pe, s*xual & reproductive ab*se, m*tilation, sl*very, g*nocide, r*cism, anti-Blackness, ableism, classism

In this 2 part series, I'll be exploring the evolution of anti-abortion stigma.

In part 1, I share my experience with abortion and explore the roots of anti-abortion rhetoric and policy in America.

In part 2, I'll examine how the media has both reaffirmed and subverted the negative connotations associated with the procedure over time.

  • Billie Eilish & Performative Allyship | Dissecting White Guilt
    Apr 19 2022

Billie Eillish is a young 20 year-old pop artist who has risen to superstardom over the last seven years with songs like “Ocean Eyes”, “Bad Guy” and “Everything I Ever Wanted”. As her popularity has grown, her name is often brought up in conversations surrounding the appropriation of Black culture. While I am frequently annoyed by Billie’s *maybe* passive appropriation, I am more frustrated by her performative gestures. So today, we’ll be discussing what performative allyship looks like through the lens of Billie Eillish’s actions.

This is 'With Nuance', an audio and visual essay experience where we dissect all things media from a socio-political lens. If you enjoy a good deep dive, then help a girl out and hit that subscribe or like button!

  • Stereotypes & Nonsense | Why Euphoria Needs A Writers Room
    Apr 19 2022

The wildly popular Euphoria of 2022 is actually an adaptation, based on an original Israeli series of the same name. In 2017, HBO announced they were developing an adaptation with original creator Ron Leshem and director Dafna Levin on board as executive producers, alongside Sam Levinson.

This adaptation is currently one of the most talked about series on television. It’s officially HBO’s second most watched show behind Game of Thrones. The series sure does know how to spark a conversation, but is it good though?

Let’s talk about why Euphoria needs to get a REAL writing room together or they need to cancel season 3.

  • Retire The Role Of First Lady | Misogynoir & Gatekeeping In Hip-Hop
    Apr 19 2022

Lil Kim, Salt-n-Peppa, Nicki Minaj and countless other women in Hip-Hop have often been referred to as First Ladies. Even today, when women are mentioned as a demographic within the genre, they’re most frequently called the First Ladies of Hip-Hop. On the surface, the title seems like a high honor to hold. But time and time again, the industry has proven this to be a hollow term, used by labels to prop up their only female artist. It's shifted in it's original use, and it's main purpose today is to reinforce the gender binary in Hip-Hop.
