Publisher's summary

"A month ago, I watched in horror as six of my fellow initiates died after sipping the Nectar of the Gods, a heavenly drink that either grants you magical powers or kills you. I can't believe I'm coming back for seconds."

Leda Pierce has survived the gods' first test and gained entry into the Legion of Angels, but the fight is far from over. Someone is poisoning the supernaturals of New York. Suspecting witches, the Legion sends in Leda to investigate. To save the city, she will need magic she doesn't have - and gaining that magic might just kill her. Now her survival depends on accepting help from the darkly seductive angel Nero, but that help comes with a price she cannot afford to pay.

Totally disappointing

For 6 hours, Leda and Nero are together fighting their attraction to each other, heavy breathing from a stolen kiss, or arguing. The main question fro Lea's friends' was are you and Nero having sex yet? As many times it is asked, she whines, why does everyone keep thinking that? If you remember, Nero's attraction was established in book one when he interfered with her interview.

Leda is still mouthy, but that quick action brawling woman who we saw in the first part of book one no longer exits. The family Leda and their dialogue, how she interacted with the people in her town, that is no longer there.

Ella Summers, the author, has me totally confused about her fighting philosophy. Nero berates Leda when she uses any item that is not specifically designed as a weapon, in a fight. Does the criminal community know that? Is this supposed to illustrate what ass whole angels are? That is despite, when Leda got the upper hand when she used a water pitcher to her advantage in a fight. You are fighting for your life!

Leda has eight more skills to acquire before she has the skills to mind speak with her brother. That is eight more times for the author to have Leda get drunk on the gods’ nectar and lose her inhibitions. That has gotten old for me already.

This was a complete disappointment because it was so heavy on romance and so little fighting. Don’t waste the credit.

Decent YA Romance

The overall plot of the Series—obtaining the highest level in the Legion to find her brother— is very very slowly built in the Series. Why the Author decided she’d only get one gift per book I have no idea. The romance between Nero and Leda also builds up very very slowly. These two things are a drawback and likely why all 8 books in the Series aren’t in Audible with raving reviews. But it’s still entertaining. In this book Leda reunites with one of her sisters during the Legion investigation into the witches use of their powers to harm others.
