Lola Sphinx is beyond excited when she learns her mermaid best friend Nawfar has inherited a magical ring that allows her to walk on land for short periods of time. Along with the young fairy Thicket, they head out on a hike and come upon a strange, magical gate that opens up into a new world.

While enjoying themselves at a roller rink, the local DJ is suddenly murdered, and somehow, Lola, Nawfar, and Thicket find themselves in the middle of everything, while also trying to get back home in time before Nawfar reveals her true identity!

Fun story with a surprise setting

Enjoyed this story much more than the first. The characters are fun, the setting was unexpected, and it left you wanting to find out what happens next! Still not a fan of the narrator, but that is a personal preference on my part. The fun story let me get past the narration issues.

Surprising turn for Lola!

Wow! I really expected a lot of the same characters in similar settings but book 2 took me to fun new places. Thicket’s voice is just as fun as Pim-Pim’s! Nice voice acting again. This narration is faster and smoother than book 1.

Enjoyable

Really a very cute and amusing cozy mystery. As the series progresses, we are learning more about the paranormal world in which Lola lives. However, just like with the first audiobook, I found some things distracting.
First, the narrator attempts different voices for different characters. The only true difference is when she uses a different pitch for voicing fairies. Either do them really well, or don't do them at all.
Second, twice the book is interrupted for an author's appeal for reviews. Either do it at the beginning, or the end of the book. In the middle of the story is exceedingly annoying! Especially when you binge listen to the entire series.
However, there are fewer pauses in unusual places. I think and the narrator got a better feel for this book, and the flow of words.
