Publisher's summary

The brand new novella in the Sunday Times #1 bestselling Rivers of London series.

THEY DO THINGS DIFFERENTLY ACROSS THE POND...

When ex-FBI Agent Patrick Henderson calls in an 'X-Ray Sierra India' incident, the operator doesn't understand. He tells them to pass it up the chain till someone does.

That person is Special Agent Kimberley Reynolds. Arriving in snowbound Northern Wisconsin, she finds that a tornado has flattened half the town - and there's no sign of Henderson.

Things soon go from weird to worse, as neighbours report unsettling sightings, key evidence goes missing, and the snow keeps rising - cutting off the town, with no way in or out...

As the clues lead to the coldest of cold cases - a cursed expedition into the frozen wilderness - Reynolds follows a trail from the start of the American nightmare, to the horror that still lives on today...

A mini ROL story

I expected the voices to sound like the ROL characters. But You soon get used to Penelope Rawlins’ voice.
The storyline is compelling, but reminded me of one of the Harry Dresden books.
All in all an entertaining listen.

Great continuation of the ROL series!

Thoroughly enjoyed the audiobook - also thank you for not making Holbrook Smith not read in an American accent - and for the record, this narrator’s British accent is equally as rough as his American accent! Introducing new narrators helps to move the stories into different realms. Keep going, I look forward to the next one!

Loved it…

I really enjoyed this audio novella, even if it’s a bit divorced from the Rivers of London setting. The characters are likeable and engaging, the story moved along at a decent pace and I liked the glimpse into small town America. More Kimberly adventures please!

Thoroughly enjoyed this novella

I enjoyed both the story and the narrator. It was definitely a different listening experience than the previous Rivers of London audio books, but I found the story completely gripping and think that Penelope Rawlins did a great job portraying the various characters.

Awful sound quality, inept narrator

Such a disappointment. I just can’t believe I have been anticipating … this! Sounds worse than 32kbps mp3, yet it’s AAC at 128kbps; something got stuffed up in the production, I bet. Narration is unengaging at best and painful to hear at worst, depending on which character she’s reading. I just can’t enjoy listening to the story and will probably have to return the audiobook.

Does not belong in Peter Grant series

This was a very slow starter and a huge disappointment. Kimberley, the main character, is an American agent who has no personal magic, can only use a gun against monsters and threats is totally lacking in humour.
If Ben wants to write a series specifically to appeal to US readers with religion, guns and the FBI, that's fine but it is so far removed from what we expect in the Peter Grant series it should be kept quite separate.
I also found the narrator flat and boring.
