Publisher's Summary

What's worse than being stranded in a small town in northern Wisconsin? Being stranded during the worst winter in recent memory. Claudia Alexander's problems are piling up faster than the snow on Lake Superior's shore. Her noble mission to find the owner of an old pocket watch is complicated by incessant snowstorms, a mysterious vandal and the appearance of an old flame. The local dogcatcher, a blind street preacher and an arthritic bloodhound come to Claudia's aid. A promising romance warms up even as the temperatures drop. But something evil is at work in Barley. As another blizzard approaches, so does a killer. Claudia must choose between her mission and saving the lives of the people she has come to love. Even if it means losing her own.

Winter in the North / a watch that alters time

This audiobook was provided by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review courtesy of AudiobookBlast dot com.

I've lived in Small Town, Wisconsin, and love the Superior shore of WI and Duluth, so I could relate even before enjoying this book. The story line has been beaten to death by publisher and reviewers, so that will not be done here.
The writing is smooth and cohesive with suspense and building to climax. The imagery is clear, and the characters well developed. Enjoy this book now!
Laura does an excellent performance of enhancing the characters and projects their emotional responses well.

Warm cozy romantic suspense!

--I was given a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

I love romance, and I love suspense. This book gave me the hometown feel of a cozy mystery with just enough romance to keep it interesting. Winter Watch is about Claudia, a woman trying to fulfill the request of returning a watch to it's rightful owner. Little did she know the value of this watch, the history and the danger it would bring to her. She ends up in the town of Barley where she meets Ezra..what a wonderful man, you cannot help but love him. This town just brings warmth to your heart as you listen to it. With Peter, her original love interest following her, and the watch, Claudia ends up in bringing craziness and suspense all around her. You will love this book if you enjoy historical romantic suspense, Anita Klumpers has a winner.

Laura Jennings as always brings her A+ performance. I love her narrations, her voice being warm and comforting throughout this book. Narrators that make their characters easily distinguishable are a pleasure to listen to, and Laura always delivers.

Very enjoyable

Any additional comments?

Listening to Winter Watch, you get the feeling that you are sitting at your grandparents knee and they are telling you a story. The author and the narrator were a perfect combination and the listen makes you feel like a kid wanting more.

It wasn't a twisting and turning whodunnit and it doesn't pretend to be. It is a well-written story with very likeable characters and enough of a 'wow' that you walk away very satisfied.

This Mystery has it All

To call this story a mere mystery would be a degradation. This story is greater than the sum of its parts. Murder and mayhem seems to abound in a quirky Wisconsin town. But when the undeserving become targets Claudia’s arrival seems more than suspect. Can she work with a host of colorful locals to solve the mystery of a family heirloom and catch a killer? This is a story of courage, romance, mystery, historical fiction, and a touch of fantasy. Claudia is much like the watch in this story. Though appearing plain or even ugly to some, she finds value in herself and the other people of the town is great to those who look with unfettered eyes.

Enjoyable Romantic Suspense

What did you love best about Winter Watch?

Winter Watch is a well-written story with just the right blend of romance, mystery, humor and suspense.
I appreciate that Winter Watch contains both romantic and suspense elements without being explicit or too intense.

What did you like best about this story?

I enjoyed getting to know the characters. After spending time with Claudia, Ezra, Anne, Philip, and the others characters of fictitious Barley, I’ve grown fond of their company. The author does a fine job at painting scenes. I can picture them even now. I especially enjoyed the scenes that took place in Ezra's home and at Barley's bed and breakfast.

What does Laura Jennings bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I read the paperback book two years ago so this was my second time through the book, and I love the fresh perspective a good reader is able to bring to a book. Laura Jennings is a fine narrator and I enjoyed hearing things through her perspective. It's one of those books I will listen to again.

Winter Watch

I enjoyed his book. It was hard to get in to for the first couple of chapters, but worth the listen as the story and characters developed. The narrator did a nice job, and her voice fit with the story. I was hoping for a little more action and a little less bland, but it was still nice and easy to follow along with.

Exciting End!

The Story:
Winter Watch started out a little slow for me. But, somewhere around the 30% mark, I got sucked into the story, and didn't want to stop listening. The author didn't skimp on character development. However, because of it, I felt there wasn't enough "action" in the book at the beginning. The author certainly tells a good story. I was actually surprised when I found out "whodunit."

The Narrator:
Laura Jennings was pleasant and easy to listen to. And, she does voices! I love when a narrator is able to give each character a different voice.

The Author:
You know you enjoyed a book when the first thing you do when you're finished is to go see what other books the author has written. Alas, this is Anita Klumpers only book. I will keep an eye out for any of her future books.

That being said, I would NOT of regretted paying for this book in any way!

I do not leave "full book reports" as some.
I hate hearing over half the story in another readers words.

This book had me caught at the title.
Was it a time travel ?
Does the watch have some curse or super natural power?
Just what will connect these different styles of life...

Written with a fresh hand is my personal thoughts. A writer not yet calloused of fingers by hours & hours of rewrites, the occasional loose phrase, not quite perfect in grammar or structure, but the words of a living person. I found a few " impressive" words used to sound elegant or knowledgeable in language, but those can be overlooked when the story keeps you caught up.

The story is well balanced and brought to a satisfying end, and filled 5 of my rather dry winter days.
It is a book I will listen to again with out pause.

I have a handful of favorite authors that make it VERY difficult to make a new author pass the test of loading to "Silver" - my 160 gb ipod. That is the one that goes with me for car, or headphones etc. My small 16 go Blue is my "just to listen" unit, constantly being recycled in content.

Winters Watch moved to Silver within 2 hrs of the last word.

I will be watching this author, hoping for more.
