Publisher's summary

In best seller Elin Hilderbrand's first Christmas novel, a family gathers on Nantucket for a holiday filled with surprises.

Kelley Quinn is the owner of Nantucket's Winter Street Inn and the proud father of four, all of them grown and living in varying states of disarray. Patrick, the eldest, is a hedge fund manager with a guilty conscience. Kevin, a bartender, is secretly sleeping with a French housekeeper named Isabelle. Ava, a school teacher, is finally dating the perfect guy but can't get him to commit. And Bart, the youngest and only child of Kelley's second marriage to Mitzi, has recently shocked everyone by joining the Marines.

As Christmas approaches, Kelley is looking forward to getting the family together for some quality time at the inn. But when he walks in on Mitzi kissing Santa Claus (or the guy who's playing Santa at the inn's annual party), utter chaos descends. With the three older children each reeling in their own dramas and Bart unreachable in Afghanistan, it might be up to Kelley's ex-wife, nightly news anchor Margaret Quinn, to save Christmas at the Winter Street Inn.

Before the mulled cider is gone, the delightfully dysfunctional Quinn family will survive a love triangle, an unplanned pregnancy, a federal crime, a small house fire, many shots of whiskey, and endless rounds of Christmas caroling, in this heart-warming novel about coming home for the holidays.

Not a happy holiday book

Do NOT read this if you're looking for a happy holiday read! Geez, now I'm totally depressed. I would've loved it if we could've had an actual closed-loop ending. Instead I feel like we are left hanging. BOO.

The constant he said, she said....

Great story but the he said/she said at the end of most every sentence was crazy annoying!

Good read!

I don’t want the three stars to signify that I disliked the book. It told a very human tale, but I think the multiple character view point might have hindered it a little. Some characters chapters are well told but others felt like feller when a more “complete story” could have been told by limiting the character perspectives down.

Meh

Adults calling their parents mommy and daddy. Inviting your cheating wife to Christmas dinner the day after learning of her affair. Not for me.

✫✫ 3 Stars ✫✫

I enjoyed the story line in this book and most of the characters. I really liked getting the POV of all of the characters but I'll be honest I didn't like the writing style. Too much he said, she said and I feel like I spent more time aggravated by the writing style then actually enjoying the story which is sad because I really did like the idea of this book. I guess I just don't enjoy books written in third person, it feels to much like a outline rather than a story.

Erin Bennett did a great job narrating these characters.

Hated for it to end.

I couldn't put this down. I was listening all the time. Can't wait to hear the next one.

Good read

I liked the story. The “French” accent was distracting as it was more Central American than French. I have a French daughter-in-law.
It’s good she didn’t have too many lines.

Too Short

Excuse of story to sell 3 books instead of write a complete novel. Good but incomplete.
