You Are My Gift

I am a huge fan of this series and it just keeps getting better and better! Although this is book 2 in the interconnected Over series, it can be read/listened to as a stand alone. I do recommend the previous book, however, because it's awesome and you are introduced to characters that appear in both books.

Devra Woodward and CJ Mission were amazing as Alex and West. Their voices complemented each other and worked well together in this dual narration. Devra's performance was especially incredible! She was the perfect Alex and her narration was so emotional and heartfelt.

Alex and West really put my heart through the ringer! It killed me to see them struggle and fight what was in their hearts. Their connection was so honest and beautiful and was told perfectly in the chapters from the past. To know that it crumbled and continued to deteriorate in the present really ripped my heart out of my chest. I loved that both Alex and West grew through the course of this book. They are not perfect people and mistakes are made, but by recognizing and accepting those mistakes they are finally able to move forward. This book will definitely send you on an emotional journey, but that only makes the destination so much sweeter. You really don't want to miss this incredible second chance romance!

Story brought to life

I read this book back in 2015 when it was first released and I enjoyed it with its ups and downs. I did like how most of the book was told from Alex’s POV, and also several chapters from West’s POV. so I really felt I could understand his mindset so much more. I did miss the amount of interaction with the secondary characters that were present in the first book in the series. I guess because of the issues being dealt with I didn’t find myself laughing as much. I also felt like the “gang” wasn’t involved as much, but that is because parts of this story takes place before there was a “gang”. There are peeks into stuff going on with these secondary characters which I love and even hints of what is to come in the next book Storms Over Secrets.
hen I heard this book was coming out on audible I couldn’t wait to be able to listen to it. The narrator's Devra Woodward and CJ Mission did a fabulous job of bringing this already 5 star review book to life making it so much more than a 5 star listen. I didn’t want to stop listening and would find myself trying to figure out ways to get extra listening time in. These narrators have so much emotion in their voices you can really "see" what they are telling. I haven’t listened to anything by them before but will gladly listen to them again. It was as if I was hearing this story for the first time.

Another excellent story

No spoilers

This story was touching for me as a former military member who served during our most peaceful time period. My enlistment ended about a year before the first Gulf War and I was not called up. I had friends who were injured or killed and the writer captures the mindset of many injured soldiers.

If you have not read the first book, read it before this one. The characters introduced in the first book carry on through this book and it seriously enhances the story.

If you don't care for descriptive sex (although this series is tame compared to others), you might find yourself skipping through the last quarter of the book. Read the book regardless!

It is a romance which means drama, angst and back and forth relationships.

Couldn't love it more!

I seriously had a few things I needed to do this weekend. Thanks to Ms. DeRouen, it looks like they won't be getting done. I'm officially addicted to this series. The characters are fantastic, the storylines have me hooked from the very beginning, and the feels are all there! Did I mention the narration is completely perfect?

There were times I wanted to yell at West and tell him to get it together, but I also fell hard for him. His love and struggle to be deserving of Alex seriously had me swooning. The struggles he was forced to overcome tugged at my heart. And Alex is the perfect kind of heroine! She knew what she wanted and put in the work, but she also refused to be a doormat. Her relationships with her friends, and her devotion to West made me want to be her friend!

Once I started listening, I didn't want to stop, and now that I'm finished I am dying to start on the next one. Who doesn't need to start another book at 1:00 am, right? This is definitely a must read book. I love this group of friends, and I love the way Ms. DeRouen writes them in a way that makes them feel so real.

Alex and West

It's one thing to have a first love. It's an entirely different story to hold onto that first love forever. Unfortunately for Alex's heart, holding onto West was excruciating. She had so many unanswered questions for him. When she finally tracked him down, the truth hurt even more.
The story of Alex and West was one of undying love, overcoming obstacles, and forgiveness. Beautiful to the end.
Devra Woodward and CJ Mission portrayed Alex and West well, bringing to life the emotional turmoil they felt.

Love Love Love

This story was so emotional and I loved it. I can not tell you how many times I was brought to tears. Alex and West’s story will absolutely tug at your heart strings. This is absolutely a must read!

Finding one another again

Alex and West first meet as teens. It is six years before they can begin their story again. Amazing love story about second chances.

The performance was better than I expected. The narrators brought the nuances of this story to reality that left me Geary eyed.

Wonderful Listen

Alex Fountaine was raised to be the perfect society wife but had dreams far greater for herself. As a teenager she meets and falls for West, a boy working for her father, well below her social standing and with many responsibilities on his young shoulders. Try as he might West can't help giving in to the attraction he feels for Alex. The ting couldn't be worse as he leaves for the Army and Alex never heard from him again. Six years later Alex still can't move past the boy who left her behind and soon learns he's closer than she ever thought possible. Fighting his own demons West continuously pushes her away and soon Alex wonders if first love can ever be everlasting love.
I was so excited when I heard JA Derouen was releasing this series on Audiobook. I loved every second of reading Wings Over Poppies, and knew listening to it which bring it to a whole new level. This was my first experience with these narrators and now I can’t wait to listen to more of their work. They were perfect as Alex and West, and this is on my re-listen list.

Mesmerizing Poignant and Moving Romance!

I absolutely loved everything about this forbidden/second chance romance! Alexandra lived a privileged life but followed her dreams despite her parents plans for her. Her dreams included her first love from the other side of the tracks. West worked hard to make a better life for himself and his family. But life had other plans for him. Now years later, Alexandra is still pining for the missing love of her life. When they finally meet after years of no contact, the loving young man is now a tortured, brooding man who wants nothing to do with her. This story is beautifully told in past and present sequence, eloquently revealing a story of epic love and what it takes to fight for that second chance. Alex was so strong and courageous, I really loved her, and how hard she was willing to fight for West. I also loved catching up with all the friends and family that we met in the first book as well. They are fun and supportive and still essential in each others lives.
Both Narrators, Devra Woodward, and C.J. Mission were superb in bringing this story to life. Their intonations, and voice changes were eloquent and fluid making me feel every emotion from joy to heartbreak, laughter to love, and everything in between.
I was totally mesmerized by this poignant and moving romance. It stayed with me long after I was finished. I highly recommend this book/series!

Amazing!

I loved this audio book, the narrators did an excellwnt job of making Alex and West come alive! I was so emersed in this story. It's a great story with so much heart and emotion.
