Disappointed
The narrator kept changing from one fake blended vaguely European accent to another and it was extremely distracting. The fact that they didn’t sound like real accents for any country I have been to (and I have been to a lot) made it more distracting. The book was also a bit more violent than I prefer. I normally really like Mercedes Lackey, but not this time.

Great story, acceptably read
This series is easily one of my favorites from the author. It combines a compelling magical world with just enough of a first-contact story to satisfy my other preference.
The narration is nice, but I submit that it would not have been necessary to read every single OCR mistake without questioning it.

Strong finish
A very strong finish to a series that had a weak start, at least as far as the narration. Karen White really turned her narrative abilities on this story around between the first book which had me questioning if I could finish the series and the last.
The story its self is the completion of the story of grown up Elspeth, heir. She changed throughout the whole of the trilogy and began to mature. In this book you really see how much as she returns home with her new powers and strange friends and jumps strait into the war that has been threatening her whole life.

Another wonderful tale from a favorite author!
I can't begin to count how many times I've read this book, so when I was able to listen to it on audible, it brought me so much joy. Mercedes Lackey has a wonderful way with words. Her characters feel real and when I'm listening or reading one of her books, I feel like I'm in the story. As her characters grow and transcend what is expected of them, I've grown more attached to attached to them than ever - I laugh with them and cry over their sorrows. These books are so full of character and depth that I can't recommend them enough. If you love fantasy, what are you waiting for? Step inside Valdemar and you'll never want to leave.
