When M receives word that a known terrorist organization is planning to infiltrate and destroy a top-secret British Royal Navy aircraft carrier-based summit of world leaders, James Bond is returned to active duty in the Royal Navy. Promoted from Commander to Captain, Bond is expected to infiltrate the aircraft carrier HMS Invincible and identify potential sleeper agents.

As he struggles to complete his mission, a massive war game is being carried out between the American, British, and Soviet Navies. And when Bond gets caught up in a murder investigation the safety of the most powerful leaders on the planet hangs in the balance....

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

It is fast moving story and it does keep your attention. The narration reminded me of the original Bond books, so it was a relatively pleasant experience. The dumb story line took way form that enjoyment.

Would you ever listen to anything by John Gardner again?

Yes

Which character – as performed by Simon Vance – was your favorite?

Bond

Do you think Win, Lose or Die needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

No. There is not much story to follow up on. Whether Bond hooks up with the heroine could be woven into any future story - not a follow up to this one.

Any additional comments?

No

Good narrative but very slim/unbelievable story

It may be just that the story is dated, but I just don’t see it being possible in todays world. The villain would of had no chance of success.

Didn’t buy into it

The story is hard to care about, the nerrator don't make the action scenes exciting. Bond don't do much, he doesn't even kill the bad guy

Bit boring

Never brought into the story they just tried too hard. The premise was just hard to accept.

Just a little to far
