"Happily Ever After" wasn't supposed to come with a do-over option. But when my husband of 20 years packs up and heads for greener pastures, and my son heads away to college, that's exactly what my midlife becomes. A do-over. This time, though, I plan to do things differently. Age is just a number, after all, and at 40 I'm ready to carve my own path. Eager for a fresh start, I make a somewhat unorthodox decision and move to a tiny town in the Sierra foothills.

Was much better than expected
After listening to quite a few outbreak stories, they can be a 50/50 hit or miss. They are either ultra gory or turn into lovey dovey twilight wannabe. This one was neither it was just happy middle ground. Tells the story of just your average teenage girl trying to survive in new world of normal. Also would recommend for young teens as it didn’t have the overkill of vulgarity and bad language as adult novels tend to do. Narrator did great job and was easy to listen to. I was given this title in exchange for honest review and I honestly would recommend as It was something I could see myself using a credit for easily without regret.

Interesting Take
This book is supposed to be for teens or young adults but it is for anybody who enjoys Dystopian. The main character is Renna a teenager living in ½ apocalypse with her family trying to survive. In before dark as the zombies (Wilders) roam at night then the action starts. Enjoyed the characters Sue, Emerson, etc including Tim Tam the cat and hope a cure is truly found, only complaint it was short. On to book 2. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. Thank you

Loved It!
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
I love a good apocalypse book, but not every book about the apocalypse is "good". Wilders is not "good", it's fantastic! Kim writes from the perspective of a teenager, Renna, and conveys her thoughts, feelings and actions extremely well, from the naivety of a typical teenager evolving into the maturity of someone who has "seen things". I'm wary of books with a love story because most of the scenes can result in eye-rolling, but Wilders' romantic points were light and refreshing, not overwhelmingly stuffy and sappy. Renna is, thankfully, not the damsel in distress; rather, the opposite. I thoroughly enjoyed this refreshing take on a "zombie" apocalypse. The plot was solid, the tension was palpable, the characters were lovable, and the the action was consistent. Well worth a listen with Liz Brand's narration, which was perfectly toned with inflections and emotions. I will definitely be reading more from Kim and listening to more novels narrated by Brand.

A Interesting and Wild Ride
This book is dealing with same virus as book 1 but it is a different family we are observing in the story. The characters are very diverse and the story builds. I was sad that it ended with a cliffhanger type ending. Narrator did a good job in narrating the story. Wish the next book was already available!!

Life in the Half-pocalypse
"Wilders" starts many years after a virus has caused the so-called 'half-pocalypse'. People are still able to live and work fairly normally, except at night when they must be indoors and protected from what have become know as 'wilders'. This book is a wonderfully original take on the zombie mythos.
The book is told from the point-of-view of 17-year-old Renna. The author does a nice job conveying the altered world from her perspective. She and her friend are a bit naive and a bit reckless concerning the dangers they face. When a new outbreak occurs, Renna faces a difficult choice that will alter her life forever. Cass Kim has written a well-developed story arc of maturity for Renna in this first book of the series.
Narration by Liz Brand provides a great emotional performance. All of the characters ring true with her interpretation of each voice.
The book has a unique story, likable characters and a solid plot. The end gives the sense of more to come. I like to have a feeling of completeness to a novel, even one in a series. This does not give me that. It doesn't detract from the story as a whole, though. It will definitely leave a feeling of wanting more.

Unique Apocalyptic Story
The Wilders are a mutated strain of humans, similar to zombies. Unlike zombies, humans have adapted to the presence of the Wilders, learning that copper and sunlight keep them at bay. With these techniques, life goes on in a semi-normal state. That is until the Wilders virus mutates creating a new strain of disease that creates Wilders who aren’t afraid of the sunlight. Wilders who attack in the sunlight.
Suspenseful and action-packed, it’s not very often that I find apocalyptic books that are unique, but Wilders is one of those. The creatures, Wilders, were an interesting concept, and I loved the author’s creature of a world that’s halfway between normalcy and the apocalypse. It was a refreshing change of pace. Characters were very well written, and I loved the details that the author put in such as Renna’s cat. It made the world and characters even realer.
My only real complaint is that the story wasn’t longer. I have some questions that were left unanswered, and I hope there will be a sequel so I can see what will become of these characters.
Narration was pleasant and went along well with the story.
This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

A must read for book lovers of any genre!
Wilders is a fantastic tale that draws you in and won't let you go. The combination of excellent writing and narration make this a must read for book lovers of any genre!
The author did an amazing job developing the characters in a natural, believable manner - with the tension of the story line building stronger and stronger with each chapter. I felt like I had stepped into the book and was trying to get away from the Wilders myself! The scientific elements were also explained in an easy to understand and believable manner - without adding any unnecessary complexity to the story.
I can't recommend this book enough! My only complaint is that the "mean author" left me hungry for the sequel!

Strangely reassuring listen during a pandemic!
I really enjoyed Wilders. It's a short book - perfect for listening on a car journey. It's described as a young adult book, and the main character is a 17 year old girl, but please don't think that it's not for you! It's a really interesting description of life 10 years after the arival of a devastating virus. The way people live has changed - but life is carrying on. I've listened to this and the prequel during the Covid-19 pandemic and it's pretty reassuring to listen to a book set a decade after life changed completely due to a virus! There's action, a great cat, friendship, strong characters and a hint of romance. It's also very well read. Recommended.

I really enjoyed this book. It’s a Zompoc with a difference. The storyline focuses on teenagers and the semi-post apocalyptic world that they live in. The narration was great too and really suited the book and the characters. If there is another book, I would definitely listen to it.
