Publisher's summary

Older than she looks and powerful beyond measure, Barbara Yager no longer has much in common with the mortal life she left behind long ago. Posing as an herbalist and a researcher, she travels the country with her faithful (mostly) dragon-turned-dog in an enchanted Airstream, fulfilling her duties as a Baba Yaga and avoiding any possibility of human attachment.

But when she is summoned to find a missing child, Barbara suddenly finds herself caught up in a web of deceit and an unexpected attraction to the charming but frustrating sheriff Liam McClellan. Now, as Barbara fights both human enemies and Otherworld creatures to save the lives of three innocent children, she discovers that her most difficult battle may be with her own heart.

Absolutely FABULOUS!

I was very hesitant to purchase this audio book when I listened to the sample. It seemed pretty boring and the woman's voice was quite annoying. However, her voice quickly grew on me - especially when I heard her the accents she used. It really brought the story to life. As for the story itself... Absolutely FABULOUS! I've enjoyed reading a few of Deborah Blake's books and thought I'd try some fiction for my own inspiration. I was not disappointed in the least! The characters are all well-rounded, the details of both worlds are well written, and the plot is very tight. I honestly look forward to the second book in this series.

Nice folk tale twist

Modern Baba Yaga with a romantic mystery. Instead of a house on chicken legs she has an Airstream, instead of a broom she has a motorcycle. She is smart, tough, and beautiful with a big heart she likes to hide. She does not eat children, in this story she helps find stolen ones.
Good secondary characters too.

The narration was good but I am not crazy about Romy Nordlinger’s voice. I got used to it. She does a good job with characterizations.

Great series starter

Great start to a series. Intriguing premise where Baba Yaga is a job title. Love the riders and her dog/dragon. The accent was just right from the narrator. Looking forward to book two

I'm hooked

A wonderful start to a promising new series (new to me) which I happily look forward to reading/listening. I did the whispersinc thing.

The narration was done extremely well. Giving life to all the various characters. She did the male voices as well as the female voices.

It's not easy to pick my favorite character. As they were all great but Baba Yaga's personality earned a place in my heart. I loved that while she used her head, and projected a calm demeanor, she was also a bit bloodthirsty at times. Her big dog, who could be a small dragon at times was really cool as well.

I highly recommend this book/series to anyone who likes magic, dragons, and paranormal romance.

A fun magical journey ✨

A liked a lot about this story however I ultimately felt disconnected from the characters. The story is quite plot driven hence it might appeal to many others, just not myself. I prefer slow character driven books. It was still a lot of fun and am glad to have finished it.

What to say...

I really wanted to love this, but I didn't. Maybe it's just me and my vibes just didn't click and I couldn't get into the feeling of this story, I'm not sure, but I felt disconnected throughout.
I do like the story idea and the sassiness of Baba. I liked the dragon disguised as a dog around humans and the magical elements.
I did feel like the main characters pined for each other too quickly. I kind of wish there would of been more of a buildup between the two. It felt more like lust more than romance between them and maybe that's what the author had in mind, I'm not sure, but I felt I wasn't rooting for them or cared to root for them as if I would for a buildup. I wanted to feel that edge of the seat of feels, but I didn't.
The story was developed, but like I said, I just didn't find myself getting into it like I'd hoped and wanted. Again, might of just been my reading slump or just wasn't in the mood. Sometimes I find books I didn't get into years ago and reread later I ended up enjoying. I might try this again a while later.

decent

This book is good with likable characters. While not my favorite it's a decent read with a interesting take on a myth.
