Publisher's summary

Andrew Harper grew up in a house marked by tragedy. His older brother, Owen, did his best to shelter him, but you can only be protected from life's pain for so long. Eventually, you end up just feeling numb...and isolated.

Loneliness was the one constant in Andrew's life. Until one girl, met by chance in a high school hallway, changed everything. Emma Burke was a mystery and all that was beautiful in this world - the only air Andrew ever wanted to breathe. She took the lonely away, filling it with hope and color, and Andrew would do anything to keep her safe, happy, and whole.

But sometimes, what feels good and right is what ends up hurting us the most. When Andrew and Emma are faced with an impossible decision, Andrew is tested to see just how far he's willing to go for the girl who owns his heart.

Cuts are deep.

Scars are left behind.

And revenge beckons.

When Andrew finally gets his chance, in college, five years after his first love broke him completely, he finds out old feelings don't really disappear just because you say you hate someone. The more he tries to avenge all that he believes he lost, the more he uncovers the real story of what happened years before.

Love is wicked. But a restless heart is never satisfied beating on its own. Can Andrew and Emma make it right before it's too late, or will the ties that bind them now destroy their only chance at a future?

Climbing Mountains to See to the Other Side

Emma Burke and Alexander Harper—Just WOW!! This was Alex’s story and the love of his life Emma…and what a story it was. Alex who was the youngest brother with what looked like the brightest future in the Harper family turned out to have the loneliest and most sacrificing stories of all of them. It is such a serious and heart-wrenching story but in spite of it all you can always see through to the heart of two younger Harper brothers…Alex and his older brother Owen, who we were introduced to us Wild Restless. So many lies keep Emma, his 16 year-old love, from getting together…one because of self-sacrifice and the other through revenge. But in the end it is Alex whose strength takes them through the mess that circumstances have put in the path to them being free to love each other again. Ginger Scott’s book usually leave you with her characters still on a path of life to making life work and trying to find the strength to get through more hurdles and I will not be surprised if the Harper boys find there way on her radar again to give us an update. An amazing read-so 5 Star Worthy!!…unforgettable in the journey that Emma and Alex have endured to get to this point in their lives.

Good Story, Horrible Narration

How could the performance have been better?

New Female Narrator.

Any additional comments?

I loved the story but found the female narrator very difficult to listen to. She sounded robotic and completed the sentences very strangely. This was very distracting from the overall story when experiencing it via Audible.

sweet story with some twists. i didn't particularly care for the female narrator, but overall a good story.

Overall I really enjoyed this book. There was a sweet romance and a few surprises. Liked the male narrator but not the female, she was monotone during most of the book.

could have been alot better

Story wasn't bad, in fact it was a good idea, but Emma was completely unlikable for me. In my opinion the only way this book would have been worth the read would to have had it just in Andrew's POV. Either that or Emma's character would need to be completely different.

The female narrator has to go!

This was a wonderful story and I would have given it a five star rating if the female narrator would not have sounded like a robot. I will never listen to another book narrated by Claire White. The male narrator, James Fouhey, did a terrific job. I wished they had hired Laura Darrell to work with James again for this book. It really is a shame because the female presentation of this book really hurt the emotional experience of the story. I am going to have to buy the book and read it to truly enjoy the story.
The other books by Ginger Scott that I own are wonderful and I have listened to them multiple times because they are just good stories that make me feel…this book, however, had that irritating robot female voice that turns my emotions off, and so I cannot enjoy the experience. Why else buy a book if it cannot create an experience to get lost in? I wish they would update this audible book and send a replay with a better narrator!

Great story. Unfortunately Siri was the narrator.

Great story! But it was EXCRUCIATING to listen to the female narrator's awful deliver in her robot voice. Oh, and when she talked baby talk- cringe worthy.
