Publisher's summary

“Sorry, but could I maybe get my hoodie back? I actually really like it.”

Between having a girlfriend, a job, and pretty decent grades, 17-year-old Jules Hatcher is living a perfectly normal life. That is, until he stumbles into Hunter Adams, who is not only openly bisexual, but also notorious for being a player and always getting what he wants. And what he wants happens to be nothing less than Jules.

What starts with Jules spilling coffee over Hunter and in turn lending him his hoodie quickly spirals into something much more complicated. Trapped in a struggle with himself and confined by the rules of society, Jules’ entire world is turned upside down, until the one thing he knows for sure is this: Getting his favorite hoodie back is by far the smallest of his problems.

A very good story and great narration.

I was amazed when I found out that this book was written by a teenager. While the story was a bit unfocused at times, and probably a bit too long, there seems to be real talent here and I will watch for other work by her.

Listening to this story brought back memories of my teenage years. It made me remember how angsty they were at times and I never had to deal with anything remotely similar to what Hunter and Jules went through.

I'm not going to rehash the story, enough reviewers have already done that and much better than I could. I want others to know that while this story definitely had its angst filled moments, it also had lots of good examples of teenagers being…well, teenagers.

Jules father was something else, and not in a good way. Unfortunately, I'm sure that people like him exist and this is why it's important for young people, gay or straight, to have a safe place where they can find shelter, if needed, or maybe just someone to talk to.

This is the first audiobook I've listened to by Maxwell Zener. I loved his voice but I do think it sounded a tad bit old for the age of the characters. His phrasing was perfect and the vocal inflections he used were just right. I would definitely listen to more books by him if he narrates any more gay romance.

I received a complimentary copy of this audiobook from the narrator but my review is voluntary and not influenced by him or the author.

I really liked it

I normally aim for thrillers and horror stories. This is neither.

However this kept my interest the entire time. I just kept rooting for the main character. It really was a good book. In my opinion completely worth getting. It is wrapped around teenagers and I am not teenager myself I am 40. But it kept my interest just the same. I do not want to give any of the story away. it does remind me a little of some of thrillers I liked like Cheerleaders. (that similar setting)

Highly Emotional Read

This was well written and expressed human emotions thoroughly. Though I feel as if it was easier to relate to the emotional aspect of the book by reading it myself, I was still able to feel the pain, the fear, the panick, the happiness, etc. I just didn't think the performer was able to adequately express them. The true extent of the drama sort of fell flat because his voice was mostly blank. But I really love this book. I own both the written and vocal copies.

Outstanding! Great Story! Great Audible Listen🎧

I adored this book, it is a great young adult novel, heartfelt and entertaining. Philline Harms is a new to me author, I did not look her up until after I finished the book. I was amazed to find she is a young adult herself, well that kind of explains how she captured the essence of teenage living so well. To publish a novel at 17 years old is a great accomplishment, especially one that is so good. This book is 15 hours long and it engrossed me from start to end. The storylines and characters are interesting and well developed. I loved how she was able to bring us along side the characters, inside their heads, to learn how they felt and what they were going through. It saddens me, that to this day people shun their own kids because of their sexuality, whether it be for religious reasons or just plain homophobic hate. Hello, it is 2019, acceptance is key to living a healthy, happy life, hate only destroys. OK, off my soap box and back to the story. I really liked Jules Hatcher and his best friends Nate and Emily. I loved how Jules and Hunter 1st met and how the author came up with her title. Also loved the chemistry between them. I really felt bad for Jules and the treatment he received from his parents. I did not care for the over the top antics and bullying he received from Victoria or the power Jules’ parents gave her to hold over him and Hunter. Were his parents so blind they could not see thru her lies? I can say the three things that annoyed me in this book, Jules’ Mom, Dad and Victoria, made a great team of ignorant and narcissistic idiots. IMO. I highly recommend this book, it has lots of drama, angst, some laughs and lot of emotions. Thanks for this great story Philline Harms, I hope this is a start to a long writing career, you are gifted and have a way with words.

I listened to the Audible edition, Maxwell Zener is a wonderful narrator and voice performer. He performs the voices of all the characters bringing each to life with their own voice and personality. He is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thanks for this great listen🎧

Wish it was NA!

This was my first book about someone coming into their sexuality. I could not have picked a better one! Later in the book, when things started happening, I wish their was mor detail, as in New adult or even erotica. But I love YA just as much. I hope to listen to more books by the author and narrator. It was well written, preformed and so much fun to listen to.

loved it!!

I loved this story. Such a sweet coming of age love story. A close representation of what some kids go through when they come out.

A good light listen

I started this book with the hope that it would have a good ending (most of these don't)and I was not disappointed. I will not say more due to not wanting to spoil it but if your reading this you should deffinitly listen to it. At times it does have the feel of being written by a teenager and reminded me of some stories I have read off of Wattpad. Its not very realistic in that there is almost no adult presence and all the characters with the exception of the main character (who are all teenagers) have almost no adults are just run off doing whatever they want. Also it contain every plot twist you can think of in a teen movie and was very predictable. Thus, I say it reads like it was written by an idealistic teenager BUT is still a good book if you dont take it to seriously. I received my copy free of charge in return for an honest review.

A Teenager Wrote This?

I listen to many gay romance novels and then was is right to there with the best. I couldn't believe it when I researched the author and found out it was a 16-year-old. Wow! She is an amazing writer.

long road to happiness

This was so difficult to listen to because of all the biases and abuses of Jules's parents and cohorts. People who are supposed to love you unconditionally treat you the worst. When Jules's parents confronted him with their homophobia it made me feel sick to my stomach. The biases and lack if support were staggering and hurt my soul. I empathized with the couple and the hopelessness of their situation. Vicky was plain vile and I despised her. Payback to the parents was a sweet treat and finally made mom wipe the scales from her blind eyes. Shame on her for ignoring the problems so long. Great epilogue. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrator did a good job bringing it to life.
