Here’s Just a Taste of This Episode’s Talking Points

Mitchelle’s Challenges That Made Her Reach Out & Change

At first thought, Mitchelle’s wanted to get help with advancing her career as an in-house lawyer.

But after our first conversation, she walked away thinking she might need a little bit more help. Cause I had her thinking about some internal work that she needed to do.

She realized that it wasn't just executive presence, which she thought was what she needed to advance. She actually needed to do some internal work within her, which in turn would allow her to show up differently for those opportunities that would unfold on their own, as opposed to chasing after something.

What Mitchelle Thought Executive Presence Was & It To Be

Initially, Mitchelle thought it was showing up to meetings prepared to put on a show. To put on a show in a way that appealed to the individuals that were at the table. She thought she needed to know how to show up in a way where she can be seen and viewed as an effective leader and not an angry black woman.

But after the work we’ve done so far, she realizes that It's really not about how she shows up, but how she determines her worth. Before she was allowing others to determine her own worth as opposed to her knowing her worth and just showing up as a person that needs to be valued.

Other Topics We Covered on the Show:

A light bulb moment for Mitchelle realizing that it was her internal issues that were hindering her to thrive in life.

    What happened to Mitchelle’s childhood?

The difference in Mitchelle’s personal quality of life and how that's changed.

Benefits of moving and being happy.

Mitchelle as a cancer survivor and the story behind that.

Mitchelle also shared three things on how to be able to get to the other side of your joy.

Just what I needed to hear!

It's like having a mentor in my pocket.

The podcast episodes are fantastic - there are several guest speakers who really shine who share their stories and insights, and who share some real gems. Christy is the highlight though- energetic, asking the deep questions and you can feel the passion. The guests are from all kinds of backgrounds and experiences, and very easy to relate to. Topics are varied, interesting and relatable- I find myself coming back to certain episodes over and over again.

Hearing a story so similar to my own made me feel less alone- my struggles are not in a vacuum. How often have I, like the women in these podcasts, thought or been told I need another degree, another certificate, or been told to just work hard and recognition would come or been reluctant to say NO to anything because I felt like I needed to be everything to everyone to have value. Sometimes uncomfortable, but always important.

Where this podcast really shines though is the coffee breaks- these short insights are perfect for lunch breaks or coffee breaks. It's like a private one-on-one with Christy, with one focused topic. Sometimes these come out of nowhere and hit you right where it matters with insights you didn't even know you needed to hear.

Christy has some tough truths, and really pushes for action. I am starting with the older podcasts and moving to the more recent, so I can say they get better and better!
