Publisher's summary

After a corpse wearing pince-nez glasses is found in a bathtub, Lord Peter Wimsey undertakes the case and investigates the deed privately. But determining whether the corpse belongs to a well-known banker or a group of mischief-making medical students is just the beginning of this tangled mystery plot.

This atmospheric novel put Dorothy L. Sayers in the ranks with Agatha Christie as a mystery writer nonpareil.

It’s the Britishness of it all

I found the pleasure in Sayer’s story to be the wry, detailed view she provides of Britain’s disappearing class system in post-WW I England. And, altho Sayers pokes a little fun at Conan Doyle’s style, her own story here commits the error of Full-on Giant Confession at the end. But, never mind, a fun listen by a talented writer.

Mark Meadows shines as Lord Peter

I’ve read all of Dorothy L. Sayers’ Lord Peter Wimsey books and listened to a few. This new version by Mark Meadows is first rate. I really hope he does more of the Wimsey books.

Complex Mystery

This mystery was so complex and at times both boring and difficult to follow. It does have a surprise ending if you can hang in there with it.

Superb Narration!!

I love the Lord Peter Whimsy books narrated by Ian Carmichael, so much so that I didn’t think anyone else would do the books justice. However, Mark Meadow’s narration is beyond excellent and makes the book a very entertaining listen!

A great murder mystery.

Just the second Dorothy Sayers book I have listened to. Very entertaining and falling in love with Lord Peter Wimsey as well as the narrator's wonderful voice.

Irritating Performance

Over-the-top, exaggerated, silly reading. Accents so strong it’s often hard to understand, even though I lived in England for two years.

Absolutely fantastic!

I grew up watching and reading the Lord Peter Wimsey mysteries. Mark Meadows is an excellent narrator - he picks up on the little twists of wit in the text, he does lots of good, distinct voices, and most of all, he nails Lord Peter's voice perfectly. I need more - I don't think I could listen to another person read the Wimsey stories after this!

Thrilling mystery of a psychopath

Dorothy Sayers is the best of all mystery writers. Mark Meadows brilliantly portrays each character.

The Wait is Over

FINALLY, audible give us a new version of Lord Peter Wimsey with a MALE narrator. Mark Meadows did an excellent job. It's Dorothy L Sayers, what's not to like. Looking forward to collect the rest of the titles in this series.

So fun!

Funny, clever and well-read. I sampled the other versions in Audible and preferred this reader.
