Auberjonois is the star

I’ve read and listened to many of the Preston/child books. I’m always enthralled by the detail and historical context they weave. But the reading of the Pendergast novels by R.A. makes me never want a book to end. His talent is (was) to me what makes these 15 hours seem so short. His passing was a great loss. Read AND listen to all of them.

Pendergast: The FBI's Secret Weapon

FBI Agent Aloysius Pendergast is the one you want to call when all hell breaks loose. He is cool,, calm,, and intellectually superior. with a southern gentleman's charm. While I was on the edge of my seat going through one of the most terrorizing books in the Lincoln/ Child collaboration of mystery stories, Agent Pendergast was calmly working through murders, a serial arsonist, cannibals, and a blizzard of historic proportions.
The story was gripping with description s of fires and killings that had me double checking the locks on my doors. In some places the story slows down, in others it is tense and nail-biting. It is worth getting through the slower parts to get back to the intense sections of the book.
I recognized Rene Auberjonois' voice immediately. I loved his narration and the life he brought to the many characters in this book.
There are quirky places in the story where Arthur Conan Doyle is having a conversation with Oscar Wilde. There is an out of body experience involving Pendergast but all of this weaves nicely into the story. it was a very good read.

Great story but background music very distracting

The Pendergast series is one of my favorites. I have everyone. Unfortunately, the background music does not enhance but drowns out the narrators voice.

Great narration, but leave out background

I enjoyed Rene Auberjonois' narration and, generally, his voice choices for the characters. I didn't feel that the background sounds added to the listening experience, and sometimes distracted me from the story.

I must say, I didn't think I'd enjoy background noise and music, but I was wrong. it was very engaging. I very much like this reader.

Intense!

Loved it for the excellent re-creation of the upscale ski area environment. Always enjoy Renee AuberjonoisWho does an excellent job of re-creating the character of Pendergast

Very good

Enjoyed this as much as the others. I Will continue through the series for sure!

I’m a big Pentergast fan

But I don’t love the sound effects. Some may prefer it. I found it occasionally distracting.

Perfect Escape with a Holmesian Twist

AXL Pendergrast is back with a new tale, this one set high in the Rockies, and in the past of Merry Old England with Arthur Conan Doyle and Oscar Wilde, with a newly found account of Sherlock and advice from Oscar:
"In Reading gaol by Reading town There is a pit of shame, And in it lies a wretched man Eaten by teeth of flame, In burning winding-sheet he lies, And his grave has got no name. And there, till Christ call forth the dead, In silence let him lie: No need to waste the foolish tear, Or heave the windy sigh: The man had killed the thing he loved, And so he had to die."

Possibly my favorite Pendergast tale.

As a Sherlock Holmes fan, I was excited to learn he was inserted in to the story line. I enjoyed the story line as a whole as well as the setting of the story. I recommend this as a good read/listen to anyone following the Pendergast saga and it’s a great stand alone story too.
