Story
Death is not an alibi. There are laws that even the dead must obey: no hijacking the bodies of the living, no possessing corpses...and never speak of the Dark. It’s the job of police exorcist Arphallo Sirus and his murdered partner, Sam Trent, to enforce these laws. No one ever said working the Dead Beat was easy, but now it’s become nearly impossible as the ghosts and the living alike commit theft and murder in search of answers to the mysteries of life, death, and what lies beyond.

Story
Westley Flagg isn't your usual lawbreaker. He's a poacher, a moonshiner, and a prepper, out of necessity. Despite trying to live on the straight and narrow, he knows the law can turn things on you in a heartbeat. When Wes has to come up with money for his Grandpa's surgery, he gets involved with an unsavory group. Living deep in poverty for most of his life, he's become resilient and flexible, but college education can only take him so far. A solar storm sends the northern lights as far south as Texas, and cascading failures in the grid cripple the nation. Now, without communications, Flagg has to prove he has what it takes to still survive.

She finds herself in charge. She is not the biggest among them or the boldest, but for some reason the others trust her.

Publisher's Summary
Their voices are all that remain.
The Wrath of God destroyed the old world, and what’s left of humanity huddles in the shadows of the Tears, strange black spheres that protect the last cities from the storms. No one knows what they are or how they work, but if you listen, you can hear them whispering.... But now the spheres are failing, falling silent.
When one of the Gardeners who protect and maintain the Tears is murdered, Julia and her partner, Zach, are summoned to find out why. Their search for a killer will take them from Angel City’s crumbling skyscrapers to the salt flats of the Pacific Desert.
But what they find goes far beyond murder, threatening to wipe out the last remnants of civilization. Perhaps they can save their city - but first they have to save themselves.

Unique post apocalyptic concept!
I loved this book! It has a very unique post apocalyptic concept different from any others I've read or listened to. I'd love to see a sequel to this book and see how humanity handles the new information that is essential to their survival. The authors did a great job with this book and Hollie Jackson was great with the narration!

Engrossing World!
Whisperworld has one of the most engrossing settings that I've read. The listener is very gracefully introduced to the world through small details like slang or just the way people dress, rather than being beat over the head with endless exposition. It gets pretty racy at times; make sure to use headphones if you're at work!

Not your standard post apocalypse...
Quite an intriguing listen. The world building is engrossing and leaves the listener wishing for more details. The plot itself is fairly basic along with generic characters. If the unnecessary eroticism was cut this would be a reasonable YA sci-fi novel.
Jackson's narration is clear and audible but it took me a while to warm to it
