Publisher's Summary

Swept away from Louisiana bayou country as a child, Miranda Miller is a woman without a past. She has a husband and child of her own and a fulfilling job in a Manhattan museum, but she also has questions - about the tragedy that cut her off from family and caused her to be sent away and about those first five years of her life, which were erased from her memory entirely.

Summoned to the bedside of Willy Pedreaux, the old caretaker of her grandparents' antebellum estate, Miranda goes back to Louisiana at last, hoping to learn the truths of her past and receive her rightful inheritance. But Willy's premature death plunges Miranda into a nightmare of buried secrets, priceless treasure, and unknown enemies.

Follow one woman's search through the hidden rooms of a bayou mansion, the enigmatic snares of an ancient myth, and the all-consuming quest for a heart open enough for love - and for God.

"Intricately plotted and exquisitely detailed, Clark's latest novel is fantastic. There's a gothic feel throughout, and the outcome of the mystery is fascinating.... Mystery lovers should move this to the top of their purchase lists." (RT Book Reviews)

Wonderful!!!

Great story, good ending. Took me a relatively long time to get through it - 4 days vs 2! But I will read/listen to more of her books. Lots of surprises, pulled on my heart strings!

Susenseful with a Christian touch

Whispers of the Bayou was a beautifully crafted tale. Protagonist finds God in the end.

Fantastic novel set along a Louisiana Bayou

What an incredible novel! I’m just sorry I hadn’t read it sooner especially since it’s set in my home state of Louisiana. This kept me guessing until the very end!

Loved (aspects of) it

The reader often had problems with Cajun accents. I intensely disliked how every chapter began with a quote from "Evangeline". That disturbed flow. Good character development, some lovable characters, some very dislikable characters, neat how some main characters developed in their fairh. Allover, very enjoyable.

Excellent story!

This is a VERY interesting story with many twists and turns and I really enjoyed it overall, but one drawback in the story was a few short sentences about the characters’ lack of modesty twice in front of a man who was not her husband and his response, and both were COMPLETELY unnecessary and out of line and should have been left out. It seems authors feel pressured to add a bit of raunchy to sell a book. How sad! This is listed in Christian mystery and as such this type of writing has no place in these book. Outside of that little part the book was excellent!

Great book

I was so happy to get a book that had a mystery and a wonderful surprise of a separated family. The way God healed those hearts that were looking for answers, both spiritually and those having deep needs to have answers to so many questions.

Good Mystery

It was kind of slow at first but kept you interested. At the end you will never believe all the twists and turns.
