But his legs tired with the years, and his heart bore the weight of aspirations he had let slip away. Now, he only watched the river, wondering if his lost hopes still floated somewhere under its glistening surface. One evening, Alden was sitting on his wooden porch when the trees softly rustled. He turned his head just in time to see a little child no older than ten walking across the moonlight.
