Publisher's Summary

DI Hal Challis is in trouble with the boss and missing his lover, Ellen Destry, who is overseas. But there’s plenty to keep his mind off his problems.

A rapist in a police uniform stalks Challis’ Peninsula beat, and there is a serial armed robber headed in his direction and a home invasion that’s a little too close to home. Not to mention a very clever, very mysterious female cat burglar who may or may not be planning something on Challis’ patch.

Whispering death

Just love this wonderful interwoven style of writing. Scenes here and there but in no way disjointed. The conclusion is never predictable. Performance great. Cannot wait for another.

Good story but:

The narrator appeared to be doing a single take without having read the book! So many pronunciation and accent errors. Weird because the narrator seems competent but completely unprepared. Maybe underpaid or short of time?

Great yarn!

Loved this twisting tale. As someone who lives on the Mornington Peninsula, the descriptions of towns and locales I know well was fabulous. Let down by the pompous weary narrator who mispronounced so many well-known place names and vegetation titles: Pittosporum, Hyundai, Moorooduc, Kooweerup, Gippsland, Tooradin, Dromana… to name a few! Surely, with a novel so carefully researched and reliant on local knowledge, someone could have briefed the narrator on correct way to pronounce these. ‘Too-Raaah-din’ made me spit out my coffee and howl! I look forward to reading more Challis adventures soon. Maybe with a different narrator?
