Publisher's summary

I am no longer among the living - at least, I don't think I am. I don't remember my name, my age, or even my sex. I don't feel. I can't smell. I hear, but sounds don't register emotional responses anymore. I see, but it's all in muted gray. No vibrant colors.

No sense of time, space, awareness. I just float like a weightless cloud drifting through the limitless universe. I don't know where I am or how I arrived at this point. Ebony nothingness has swallowed me whole.

Can you help me? Will you help me? I need to know. Want to know. Have to know.

Who am I?

Where am I?

How do I escape this black void?

Help.

Please, help me.

Short but full!!

Ashley Fontainne is a prolific writer. Her creativity of telling this story is fantastic! In this story, she had me questioning myself over and over if what I was thinking was the truth or was there a different twist...and...yep...there it was...again and again!
This was a first listen for me for Andrea Emmes' narration. She did a fantastic job. I didn't get 'bored' with her narration and she did a fantastic job of keeping the characters recognizable and interesting. I'll be looking for more from her!

A story of Justice and Karma

Would you consider the audio edition of Whispered Pain to be better than the print version?

I don't think I would've gotten the same enjoyment by reading it as the narrator really brought this story to life and I was engaged from beginning to end in listening. Trying to determine which character was the one that was not among the living.

What other book might you compare Whispered Pain to and why?

N/A

Which character – as performed by Andrea Emmes – was your favorite?

Angie. She was such a strong and amazing woman beating the odds then gaining justice through karma in setting her father up so he could pay for killing her sister as a baby.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, I could've listened to this in one sitting if I hadn't had to go to work. I was able to complete listening to this story in the same day though.

Any additional comments?

I really enjoyed this author and narrator and would love to listen to additional book combos with both. Thank you for your imagination and performances.

A twisted and thrilling short story.

This is only a short story but it definitely packs a punch! So much happens in such a short space of time!!

Initially, I wasn't sure what was happening at the start but the author weaved a thrilling tale of betrayal and murder that comes together at the end. It starts with a patient in a coma and she hears and feels everything happening around her. She tells her story of how she came to be there and in it we see a tale of deception, murder, betrayal and love. It's a chilling tale but oh so gripping!!!

Ashley Fontainne, has once again has cast her magic on me. This book just goes to show what a strong writer she is. It may only be over 3 hrs long but it feels like a full book. I was absolutely hooked the whole way through and didn't see the big reveal coming!!

I don't think I can say anything else about Andrea Emmes that I haven't said in previous books narrated by her. She rocks as a narrator and is one of a few who I'll buy any book read by her!!

great book took a bit to get into it but worth it

I was pleasantly surprised. It took me a bit to get into it and at first I was totally confused. The story unravels (slow start though) at a good pace, characters are thought out & the lead is someone that you're intrigued with. Good story. I'd try this author for sure

Not quite sure where this one was going.

What did you like best about Whispered Pain? What did you like least?

Enjoyed...characters development, interaction of characters, concepts raised.
Didn't enjoy...most of the male characters were highly unsympathetic, almost gratuitously I felt. The story stumbled at it's resolution, and the ending was less than I had expected.

If you’ve listened to books by Ashley Fontainne before, how does this one compare?

In some ways, understanding what the principals were experiencing is something I need to know and respect more.

Which character – as performed by Andrea Emmes – was your favorite?

She ( please correct this auto-question ) . is very clever in the way the story presented her POV on various aspects of male/female relationships as an integral part of the plot.

Do you think Whispered Pain needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Actually the performance by Andrea is the highlight of the story for me. Thoughtful with enough energy to drive the story forward. Very well done.

Any additional comments?

This is story needs some additional editing and development. There are some disturbing images , both mental and visual, that could upset some listeners.

All that said, I enjoyed this offering, and recommend it, with the reservations previously noted.

Quick read with a well thought-out story line.

I really enjoyed that this was a quick read. The story line was very well thought-out and definitely held a few surprises for me. While it was somewhat dark, there is also a odd underlying sense of hope (for the future). Andrea Emmes did a pretty good job with the narration (though not absolutely excellent). Overall, this was a great book, one which I'd recommend.
