Publisher's Summary
Dark secrets surface in the third Widow’s Island novella by number one Wall Street Journal best-selling author Melinda Leigh.
When a body washes up on the state park beach, Deputy Tessa Black’s experience as a former Seattle detective tells her that the death was not an accident. All evidence points to another murder on the remote island.
The victim is a local contractor with a shockingly long list of enemies. The more locals Tessa interviews, the more people she suspects - from the bitter ex-wife and estranged current wife to disgruntled former clients and employees. They all have different reasons to want him dead.
As Tessa’s investigation heats up, arson and a vicious assault convince her the killer is desperate to hide his crime - and that she’d better solve the case before he claims another victim.

Whisper of Bones
I am enjoying this series of novellas, especially since I am listening to them in audio! This one is about a body that washes up on the beach. Turns out this body was dead for hours prior to being put in the water. Turns out he is a contractor and there are lots of twists and turns and then an arson added in. More insights into Tessa, Logan, Cate and Henry (the local doctor/coroner) and getting closer to knowing what happened to their missing friend Samantha. Definitely looking forward to the next book!

I've been enjoying this series, but
this book tended towards the trite. Still it's a quick listen and moves a little distance along the story arc. I listened to it as part of Kindle Unlimited so I'm not as unhappy as I would have been if I'd paid for it and it was permanently a party of my library. in that case I'd have been tempted to return it.

Body on the Beach
The third in the series finds Deputy Tessa Black and friend FBI agent, Cate Wilde, investigating the murder of a local construction contractor that washed up on the beach. It seems that Jason McCoy, sole carpenter on the island, was a bully with plenty of enemies, separated from his current wife and notably disliked by his ex-wife. So, the list of suspects continued to grow as the authorities begin to investigate his murder. At the same time, Tessa’s mother who suffers from dementia, is getting worse and Tessa has to think about long term solutions for her care, while also providing for and seeing to the needs of her teenage sister. Tessa and Cate haven’t forgotten about their own friend, Samantha, who disappeared nearly 20 years earlier, and the plea from Samantha’s mother to find her daughter, and have begun pouring over old case files. The investigation of the murdered construction contractor is well done, and as always, I enjoyed the quirky personalities of the folks on Widows Island, the continuing friendships of the people introduced in the first two books and the excellent conclusion of the mystery. Well done!
