A powerful indictment of the political and military decisions that led to October 7.

While Israel Slept tells the gripping inside story of how Hamas, Israel’s weakest enemy, succeeded in launching a surprise attack on one of the world’s most powerful militaries. Through a detailed examination of the events leading up to October 7, 2023, the book exposes the intelligence and strategic failures that enabled this devastating invasion. It takes listeners back in time, showing how years of complacency, mistaken intelligence analysis, and a misguided policy of containment enabled Hamas to prepare for an assault that Israel did not believe was possible and that would change the Middle East.

The book unveils the dramatic events of the night before the attack, highlighting the cracks in Israel’s military and political leadership. It provides unprecedented details on how key warnings were missed, and how Israel ignored the growing threat from Hamas, believing that the group was weak and deterred. By exposing these failures, While Israel Slept offers a stark, sobering account of how overconfidence and complacency paved the way for disaster, while underscoring the critical lessons Israel must embrace to safeguard its future.

Time to amend the paradigm with correcting blunders compounded over time. Violence here has parallels with old pirate strongholds raiding for profit, (I.e. Nassau Republic of Pirates; 1655 Port Royal Jamaica). All nations can hunt and destroy pirates, see 1820 Treaty for Suppression of Piracy and UNCLOS would by analogy cover Oct. 7th raid. Make sure these violent actors are penniless & forfeit their funds to be then given for the benefit of those they exploit, I.e innocent child brides forced to create human shield walls with their bodies.
Iran pays 93% of Hamas brigades costs $300,000,000 and delights in boasting it recruited 200,000 fighters. Iran copied for profit Roman gladiator schools (100 BCE to 393 CE) to exploit these modern pirate/mercenaries escaping from futureless places. The fighters & paymasters profit from energy price reactions and will not stop till they can’t get paid for these raids. Stop blunders of seeing these besotted killers as a country. Defend yourself from murder do whatever it takes to stop these pirate/mercs. Don’t mistake a colorful pirate flag for their bosses’ gas station for a government. The self appointed mob bosses have always rejected their own state (1919, 1922, 1937, 1938, 1947, 1949, 1967, 1978, 1994, etc.) it is time to accept the truth. They exist mainly to kill and plunder others and make profit for their masters. Sad and tragic hope they end their delusions soon. Until then prayers for all. This book casts light on the well intended self delusions and shines on a path to stop future raids. Be safe.

This is an excellent review of the history of both successes and failures on the part of Israel that led to the horrific October 7th day. While I have lived through countless stories of Israel from my young teen years during the 60s and early 70s, various peace accords, or land swaps, the disengagement from Gaza, etc., the authors put together particular pieces of history in a novel perspective- intelligence.
I probably have a more sympathetic view of Bibi than the author does because, as an American, and a non-Jew, I saw the needle he was trying to thread through extremely difficult political issues in America. He seems to think Biden and Obama were more pro Israel than they really were. Nevertheless, his ultimate conclusion that Israel needs to resolve their internal issues and present a unified face to the world, and take a more proactive messaging campaign as suggested by Charlie Kirk in the recently released letter to the Israeli Prime Minister, This was echoed by the authors and should be part of Israel’s Defensive Shield.
Israel and her people are always in my prayers.

Detailed analysis knit with thoughtfulness
