Publisher's Summary

In the valley of Fruitless mountain, a young girl named Minli lives in a ramshackle hut with her parents. In the evenings, her father regales her with old folktales of the Jade Dragon and the Old Man on the Moon, who knows the answers to all of life's questions. Inspired by these stories, Minli sets off on an extraordinary journey to find the Old Man on the Moon to ask him how she can change her family's fortune.

She encounters an assorted cast of characters and magical creatures along the way, including a dragon who accompanies her on her quest for the ultimate answer.

Grace Lin, author of the beloved Year of the Dog and Year of the Rat, returns with a wondrous story of adventure, faith, and friendship. A fantasy crossed with Chinese folklore, Where the Mountain Meets the Moon is a timeless story reminiscent of The Wizard of Oz.

I Really Loved Where the Mountain Meets the Moon!

I was intrigued by the book from beginning to end not wanting to put the book down. I Love Minli the main character and all the different stories in the book. The narrator did a great job all throughout the story, however my only disappointment was that It skipped a part on one of the chapters and went directly to the next. That was really weird but overall the book it self made up for it because it's amazing!

Great book, great narrator

I am so excited finishing this book. It is like a all-star Chinese fairytale, the main storyline is well designed, and many Chinese folklores are smartly integreted within. Even supporting characters are famous and have their own wonderful legends, that why I call it all-star. I love the book.

A wondrous journey into the magical world of Chinese folk tales

I was totally mesmerized by the story and I am still to this very day, a year since my purchase. The pacing, the narration, the spirit brought out by the author as well as the narrator kept me enchanted and I loved every single second of listening to this wonderful creation. I cannot say this about some other books, which, after having listened to this and two others in the series, also written by Grace Lin, simply pale in comparison. The story carries you to the captivating world of magic where a friendship forged for life is as strong as The Iron Rod left on Earth by Nuwah, and as warming as a steamed bun enjoyed on a cold winter day.

Tale with the power to change you for the better

Mostly I love stories for their power to make my life more palatable (especially audiobooks! Am i right audiobooks fanatics?). But every once in a while I feel truly changed and benefited. I especially identified with "Ma" in this story and my partner is much like "Ba". We are parents of a beautiful only child ourselves and I was especially touched by their side of the story. I can't wait to listen to this with my boy when he gets a little older! I know it will probably catalyze an educational deep dive into Chinese mythology (which I've been wanting an excuse to make rime for for years!) I also can't wait to read another. Xie xie Grace Lin and Janet Song; I am so very....thankful <3
