Story
When Bernie Sanders began his race for the presidency, it was considered by the political establishment and the media to be a "fringe" campaign, something not to be taken seriously. After all, he was just an independent senator from a small state with little name recognition. His campaign had no money, no political organization, and it was taking on the entire Democratic Party establishment. By the time Sanders' campaign came to a close, however, it was clear that the pundits had gotten it wrong.

From one of the most prominent voices on the American left, a galvanizing argument for why we need socialism in the US today. Bhaskar Sunkara explores socialism's history since the mid-1800s and presents a realistic vision for its future. Sunkara shows that socialism, though often seen primarily as an economic system, in fact offers the means to fight all forms of oppression, including racism and sexism. The ultimate goal is not Soviet-style planning, but to win rights to health care, education, and housing and to create new democratic institutions in workplaces and communities.

In July 2004, Barack Obama electrified the Democratic National Convention with an address that spoke to Americans across the political spectrum. Now, in The Audacity of Hope, Senator Obama calls for a different brand of politics: a politics for those weary of bitter partisanship and alienated by the "endless clash of armies" we see in Congress and on the campaign trail; a politics rooted in the faith, inclusiveness, and nobility of spirit at the heart of "our improbable experiment in democracy".

Story
Millions of Americans have lost confidence in our political and economic system. After years of stagnant wages, volatile job markets, and an unwillingness by those in power to deal with profound threats such as climate change, there is a mounting sense that the system is fixed, serving only those select few with enough money to secure a controlling stake. With the characteristic clarity and passion that has made him a central civil voice, Robert B. Reich shows how wealth and power have interacted to install an elite oligarchy, eviscerate the middle class, and undermine democracy.

the undying spirit
if nothing else this book shows what perseverance and an undying can do attitude can do to further a cause you believe in. regardless of policy it's inspiring to hear how Bernie went from humble beginnings to how being a driving force and spear head for policy discussion. I will say the repetitivness if the material does wear it's welcome a little bit but these issues still aren't resolved so he's probably going to keep repeating himself till they are.

Disappointing
This reads like a Cavanaugh family calendar, without the beer and sex. I'm a big Bernie Fan, but I was hoping for a more fleshed out version of these ideals, and what led this man to commit to them. Instead, it was a lot of campaign rhetoric on repeat. This book could have been something so much more personal, but I feel like instead it read like a catchphrase. Informative in some places, and documentary in it's timeline, I was let down.

A Progressive Guidebook
Released in November 2018, this book explains the author’s plan for moving forward after his 2016 campaign for US president. In part, it is a diary of his activity following the campaign. It is also an outline of where he thinks the progressive movement should go and how it can get there.
The author comes across, as he always does, as humble and genuine. These are his thoughts on where to go with the movement, but they reflect the view of many in the progressive movement that he leads. Mr. Sanders not only talks to but listens to many progressives across the country. In many ways, he embodies that movement.
Of particular interest is his narrative of the 2018 midterm elections and the election of progressives in that election.
This book is about progressives, primarily for progressives or those curious about the progressive movement. There are few surprises for those following political events but provides some detailed insight into Mr. Sanders's thinking and actions during this period.

A Must Read from a true American Visionary
Not just America but the whole world needs Senator Bernie Sanders to win the democratic nomination in 2020 and then in November 2020 to win and make Donald J Trump a one term President. Then in the mid terms flip the senate to join the house as Democrats. The current America is not the America that the founding fathers envisaged but one that is being torn apart. Every American who can vote must vote to end the GOP hold over the nation and get back to giving every America a fair go
