The Darhel are a race with a highly developed empathic sense. Story
The invaders are coming; the Posleen, a seemingly unstoppable horde who have conquered one star system after another, literally feeding on their conquests. Earth's dubious allies, the Darhel, have given the humans a number of highly-advanced technological devices, including a process for rejuvenating the aged, including trained and proven soldiers who otherwise would be too old to fight. Rejuvenation may give a critical edge, since to survive, the Earth must use every resource at hand.

Duke Edmund Talbot has been assigned a simple mission: Go to the Southern Isles and make contact with the scattered mer-folk-those who, before the worldwide collapse of technology, had altered their bodies in the shape of mythical sea-dwelling creatures. He must convince them to side with the Freedom Coalition in the battles against the fascist dictators of New Destiny. Just a simple diplomatic mission. That requires the service of a dragon-carrier and Lieutenant Herzer Herrick, the most blooded of the Blood Lords. Because New Destiny has plans of its own.

Colin MacIntyre's life as a NASA astronaut might not have been exciting, but at least it was orderly. Unfortunately, he's been tapped for greater things, and he isn't too sure he likes it. First he was kidnapped by an ancient, self-aware starship masquerading as Earth's moon. Then he was drafted as its captain to suppress a 5,000-year-old mutiny. And then he had to mobilize the planet against the attack of an eons-old ancient menace dedicated to the eradication of all intelligent life in the galaxy! It's hard to blame him for feeling a little stressed....

Can it be better?
In this whole series also......John Ringo is without a doubt, in my mind, one of the best science fiction writers currently plying the trade. I don't know if he grew up reading the masters (heinlien, clarke, asimov....) but I am hearing their echos in his writing. An absolute joy to listen to........... Science Fiction like it needs to be.......(again).

Hold the Pass
The battle for Earth continues from the prior books in the series. There was less of Mike and the suits in this story and more about his father Mike Sr. and daughter Cally. The life in the Urb-underground complex where the women and children lived was interesting and the flight to escape was nail-biting suspense. The suspense during the entire book continued to build with lots of battle action to help relieve the tension, along with some humor. The nuclear weapons were used in this story to great effect. Marc Vietor did a great job narrating the book and was impressive with the alien voices. Look forward to the next volume.

John Ringo spins a great story
Where does When the Devil Dances rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
John Ringo's conversational style of writing lends itself well to audio format. Marc Vietor does a terrific job reading this book so that it is engaging and entertaining. Both the Posleen and Troy series have been great listens and among some of the best audio books I have in my collection.
What other book might you compare When the Devil Dances to and why?
There is more of a straight military/action style to the Posleen series ("Hymn before Battle" and "Gust Front") as compared to the Troy series ("Live Free or Die", "Citadel", "The Hot Gate"), but the humor and pop references in all the books makes for an entertaining story, though the story does involve a lot of military action so if you are not a fan of the genre you will likely not enjoy these that much.
The series here compare well early Honor Harrington novels. Battles are tense, the actions of the characters heroic, but there are moments of humor as well. These are people who are thrust into dangerous events and rise to the challenge.
Which scene was your favorite?
There are so many, it is hard to pick just one. I think the combination of John Ringo and Marc Vietor makes for a wonderful book, I really cannot say that enough.
The emotions are sometimes very raw, but the reactions of a diverse cast of characters to world shattering events seem real and are as varied as the personalities of the characters.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The raid on the Urb and the realization by the characters that they must get out, but that the majority of those in the underground complex were doomed before the characters were even aware the complex had been invaded.

Yea! the story continues and its even better
Well there is not much to say, I dont know if it makes sense to review a book thats the 3rd out of 4 books (or more if you count the side stories) because if you have read the first 2 then you know whats going on and why you should read this one, but here it goes.
So the story continues and its even better then I thought it would get, many if the issues I have had with the other books having side plots that go nowhere and other ones that do but dont make sense, many of those things are not here which is a good thing.
There are some things that are hinted at in the last 2 books that you know have to be going on but are not sure how its done and its sorta touched on here and really its awesome as ever - the regeneration stuff turns out is a little easier then it was thought to do and evidence that might help explain why Earth was helped to prepare its self for the war.

The goes on and the kids grow up.
What made the experience of listening to When the Devil Dances the most enjoyable?
Marc Vietor does such a great job with all of the different characters and emotions needed in this.
Would you be willing to try another book from John Ringo? Why or why not?
I am determined to get through this entire series, I'm really enjoying it.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
There's a great part in the middle of the book that really establishes how human these characters are.
