Publisher's summary

A need to belong drives her. A longing to forget compels him. Fate may send them into each other's arms, but only love can mend their hearts.

An Outlander

Raised by a tyrannical father, Marion de Lacy yearns for the comfort of belonging to a loving family. So when her father announces her betrothal to an evil knight in exchange for his help to overthrow the king, she concocts a desperate scheme to avoid the marriage: feigning her own death and then fleeing England. But when her plan goes terribly awry and she's captured by the knight, not even her careful preparations could ready her for the Scottish barbarian who rescues her and then informs her that he's to marry her by edict of her king. Certain her father will defy the king's orders and wed her to the knight if she refuses the Highlander's hand, Marion agrees to marry the strangely compelling but obstinate laird of the MacLeod clan.

A Highlander

After the death of his beloved wife, Iain MacLeod has no desire to marry ever again. Yet when he finds himself obliged to do so to secure the freedom of his childhood friend and king, he reluctantly travels across England to collect his unwanted bride, expecting to find a cold Englishwoman. Instead, he discovers a fiery, bold beauty who is fiercely loyal, protective of those she loves, and defies him at every turn, challenging his certainty that his heart is dead.

Ensnared

Following a hasty marriage and perilous journey to Scotland, Marion harbors no illusions that her new husband loves her. Still, her heart cannot resist the noble, brave warrior, and she cannot suppress the hope that she has finally found where she belongs. However, the harder she tries to fit in with the clan and gain Iain's love, the farther away her dreams drift. Iain is more than willing to give his respect to his courageous wife - her kisses and caresses even ignite his blood and demand his passion - but he refuses to give up his heart.

Excellent Story and Narration

This is my first book by this author and the story was excellent. The main characters are well written and life during that time period is historically accurate. I was especially impressed by the narration. Mr. Campbell was Excellent! I have my favorite narrators for different authors and these 2 make a great pair. If you like Highland romance you have to listen to this one. I can't wait to start the next book in this series.

Quite good

Quite engaging and enjoyable. Author can actually write which is not always the case with these romance novels. Plot held together except for a minor silly thread about a fairy flag. Characters were likable and historic accuracy was good enough for me though perhaps not for an historian of the period. Explicit sex so be warned if that offends you.

enjoyed the book

I like to listen to Campbell and he does not grade on your ears as a female. But would have been better experience with a female reading female narration.

A wonderful and worthwhile listen!

As another review says, this book has a few similar plot lines to Julie Garwood’s “The Bride” (which is such a highland romance classic!) … but I thought it was really well done and a worthwhile listen! Enjoy!!

When a Laird Loves a Lady

Hard to follow at first, I think because of the language. But I caught on and enjoyed the reading . Ty.

When a Laird Loves a Lady

I really enjoy the story line because it was straight forward. Other historical books try to hard to make a story more complicated and the story goes to long. The second important part to audible are the voices and they were perfect.

narrator has fabulous accents

This narrator is wonderful at the different accents and the inflections that sound native to each. He is also wonderful at softening when he is reading the parts that are meant to be spoken by women. It really allows one to see the story and not get confused about who is speaking. I love this genre anyway but when i hear it in what to me (as an unworldly american) sounds like a perfect Scottish brogue it lends even more to my imagination. i have placed all of the books of this genre with this narrator on my wish list. This wont be the last one of his narration that i listen to i promise.
