Publisher's summary

All she wanted was the truth, but she'll wish she never found out.

When Catherine wakes up alone one morning, she thinks her husband has gone for a run before work. But Simon never makes it to the office. His running shoes are by the front door. Nothing is missing - except him.

Catherine knows Simon must be in trouble. He wouldn't just leave her. He wouldn't leave the children.

But Simon knows the truth - about why he left and what he's done. He knows things about his marriage that it would kill Catherine to find out. The memories she holds onto are lies.

While Catherine faces a dark new reality at home, Simon's halfway around the world, alive and thriving. He's doing whatever it takes to stay one step ahead of the truth.

But he can't hide forever, and when he reappears twenty-five years later, Catherine will finally learn who he is.

And wish she'd stayed in the dark.

Bizarre

At times the book was hard to follow with the back and forth of time. As with other books I have read I️ fail to understand how so much dysfunction could exist in so many
adults. At times it just seems common sense would dictate better choices but then again I suppose common sense and wisdom probably don’t make for good books. Having said this the book was a good read and kept me listening.

Simon is one sick individual

I thoroughly disliked Simon so the author did his job well. Although the book reads like a memoir I was hooked. I had to find out what Kitty had done to send this man into a downward spiral. All I can say is wow. Secrets and insecurities and the lack of communication and the misguided notion of perfection destroyed a family.

Great book! Unexpected ending

This was a great book. You love and hate the characters at different times. This didn't end how I thought it would. Definitely recommend

Authentic and Relatable characters

"When You Disappeared" is a compelling novel that delves deep into the complexities of human relationships and the haunting impact of the past. The story is richly layered, with characters who feel remarkably authentic and relatable.

The author skillfully navigates themes of love, loss, and second chances, creating a narrative that resonates with readers on a personal level. The alternating timelines add depth and intrigue to the plot, and the gradual unfolding of secrets keeps you eagerly turning the pages.

I'm rating this book four stars because, while it is undeniably engaging and thought-provoking, there were moments when the pacing felt slightly uneven, causing the story to drag in some parts. Additionally, a few plot twists were somewhat predictable, which took away from the element of surprise.

However, these minor criticisms should not deter potential readers, as "When You Disappeared" is a worthwhile read that offers a poignant exploration of the human experience. It's a book that will keep you emotionally invested in its characters and their journeys, making it a solid choice for anyone seeking a thought-provoking and emotionally resonant story.

Wow...

Words fail me as I think back of the last few chapters, and the twist after twist, after twist. Very good story, great characters. Narration was good!

Tragic story

First, this book was well written. I really enjoyed getting into the characters thought processes and having an understanding of their motivations. at times this really did slow down the pace of the book but having these understandings is very important to the story.

Having said that, getting to know the male protagonist was very unpleasant. There's nothing at all that about him that I liked, not even as a villain. A good villain has qualities that, even if I don't agree with it, I understand it. With this guy, he just came across as a dumb idiot and I quickly became tired of him.

The overall story was certainly dramatic & over the top. So many things happened to this couple, you definitely have to suspend some belief.

I think if the characterization of the husband included some humanity other than him being so selfish, I would have enjoyed the story better.
