Gripping

Gripping story although the protagonist is surprisingly naive for a police woman which is a little unbelievable.

Enjoyable although not suspenseful

I enjoyed the story which is mainly about obsession and stalking but it is definatly not a thriller nor suspenseful. I wasn't very invested in the characters but story was interesting enough to listen to the end

Not as good as I expected

The main character was terribly irritating. Supposedly intelligent but hell-bent on making daft decisions. Not my favourite.

Another Fabulous Crime Thriller by Michael Robotham

Michael Robotham is my favorite novelist and he sure doesn’t disappoint with his latest effort. Unexpected, fresh twists make this unputdownable. And Katy Sobey is an excellent narrator who does especially well with Tempe’s Irish accent. Definitely listen to this one if you’re looking for a phenomenal thriller with rich characters and several intriguing story lines.

Very Disappointing

I have read of all of Michael Robotham's books and rate him as one of my favourites so it is with great disappointment that I have to give this book a two star rating. I gave up after six hours as I realised that I just could not care less about what happened to any of the characters, the book was also so slow with little pace or suspence. At the end of six hours all I had managed to get from the plot was Phil was a police woman and also the daughter of a London Gangster who had befriended an odd Irish girl who might have been the victim of domestic abuse. There was something going on with the police maybe corruption and Phil was the target for some sort of something !! There were also a lot of peripheral characters that added nothing to the plot as far as I could see.I t took all that listening time to get there and at this point I lost interest. I will however await his next book which I hope will be back on form.

A bitter disappointment for a Robotham fan

The narrator is very good but the main character is annoying and naive and unfortunately it is told in the1st person so there's no respite. The plot is weak, a bit chicklit style, murders are mentioned but have minor relevance. My main takeaway is that I wasted my time. Next time better I hope.

When You Are Mine

I honestly cannot believe that this novel was written by the excellent Michael Robotham as it was pretty implausible to say the least! The red flags were apparent even extremely early on and I cannot believe how naive and stupid the main character, Philamena was. Also, how on earth did a woman from a criminal family get accepted into the Met as a PC? Her background would have been checked out thoroughly. Does Mr Robotham believe that the Met is full of corrupt officers? The tenure of his prose would assume that he did. Also, considering that the characters were British there was an awful lot of US and Australian slang in there.

The narrator was one of the worst I'd ever heard on Audible - her irritating girly voice drove me insane and as for her northern Irish accent for the character of Tempe - no!

Duly returned.

Frustrating read

The story is good. I found the main protagonist extremely frustrating. I’m not sure if this is the authors view on a woman’s mentality or just this character. At one stage I was screaming at the speaker for the main protagonist to stop being such an idiot. I was pleased when book was over, it ended rather suddenly, however it had been dragged out so a relief. I’m not sure if I would recommend it. I definitely wouldn’t re read it. The description of places in London were great and reminded me of places I knew. The description of the Met police highlighted what a lot of people know. Good and bad apples everywhere.

Sorry works, but overall a disappointing listen

Firstly I have to say that Michael Robotham is one of my favourite authors and the reason I bought this book.

With that in my I have to say that this one left me a little disappointed. While the story wasn't bad, the main character and many of the surrounding ones didn't feel quite believable to me. There was also definitely something missing in the delivery/narration of the book, the repetitive tone felt bland and I very nearly have up in it.

it had a good plot and ending,, but i don't think I'd rush back to a sequel.

Excellent!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and the integration of actual events was a breath of fresh air. Although, how the main character managed to make so many blunders was beyond me, but served to retain my interest and curiosity throughout .
An excellent book narrated very well.

Disappointing

Michael Robotham is one of my top authors, but this was a real disappointment. I felt I was listening to chicklit rather than suspense. The narrator didn't help - this narrator would be much more suited to Bridget Jones' Diary than a suspense thriller. The voice was just not right for the novel, and I mean no disrespect to Katy Sobey, who, I am sure, is the perfect voice for other genres. The male voices were not well performed, and the main character came across as weak and whiny. I might give this novel another go, but in print rather than audio. Somehow, though, I think not. I expected boxing gloves, and got a predictable, somewhat toothless feather duster.

Fantastic, kept me guessing

Great pacing and characters. Narration was good, aside from the slightly dodgy Belfast accent. Thoroughly recommend

Another gripp[ing thriller

No way can I agree with the reviews given. To me this was a totally gripping tale from my favourite author. The story was completely convincing, the characters complex and real, and the twist at the end for me, anyway, quite unexpected. Kate Sobey's narration was excellent - to me she actually became Philomena as the story proceeded, giving her an emotional depth the listener could really relate to. I loved every minute of this book and look forward very much to Robotham's next.

Let down

The premise of a female police officer with a mobster for a father seems a bit too familiar in this story. But I was willing to go with it and see where Michael Robotham, a very skilled author and one of my favourites, took it. Where he took it though was a let down. Waiting for the slightly promising beginning to evolve into a compelling crisis I eventually realised that wasn’t going to happen. And the ending turned out overly fluffy and weak. A bit like chick lit. Not at all a bad listen though and occupied my hours well. Asked if I recommend this audiobook I would say, hmmmm maybe. Another Cyrus and Evie book would be really great though.

Nowhere near as good as his othera

I give this a 3.5 review. Would I recommend it? Probably not.

Nowhere near as thrilling as his other books. The story line was quite weak and not much action at all.

Sorry Michael! I love your other books but not this one unfortunately.

What a disappointment

I have normally liked Michael Robotham’s books but I’m afraid this is not one. It’s so obvious. Great shame as I was so looking forward to it.
I can’t give good reviews for this.

Top Notch!

really enjoyable even though I guessed a lot of the plot. Very well performed! I wanted to just kerp listening. Such interesting characters! Robotham is under-rated...probably because he' s not American. Better than Michael Connelly in my opinion.

Another unique story from a very talented writer

I have only just recently discovered Michael Robotham but thank goodness I did! This book is just another shining example of the brilliant writer that he is, his stories are uniquely his own and not something that you think "yeah it was good, but it's been done before". Highly recommended.

Excellent, highly recommended!

I have been reading Michael Robotham’s books for years enjoying the main characters being men and now we have a female lead.
Robotham has a realistic grasp of a woman finding herself in a challenging situation both professionally and personally. Thoughtfully written with insight and in no way “chic-lit” - I highly recommend this book to all women as well as men comfortable in their gender.
