I liked it

the story kept me entertained. the narrator was ok. she pronounced some words a bit funky so it threw me off. the way she did the male voices sounded odd too. but overall I enjoyed it. I'm a fan of Anna godbersen.

This book was interesting. It got violent at one point. I recommend it to anyone.

Anna Godbersen always amazes

I’ll never get tired of historical romances from this author. Her descriptions are absolutely beautiful, and her plot lines are always dramatically juicy.

Solid Work But Not What I Signed Up For

Having just come off the Dune series, I was in the market for a palate-cleanser. I looked at several lists of "light-hearted historical fiction" and this was on them all. At first it's that! But I got sucked into the story and decided, stupidly, to stick it out once the fire started. The last half is horrifying. There are detailed descriptions of the Chicago fire, humanity at its worst, and all the carnage and suffering the author can conjure up. It's really stressful and you won't even get a happy ending out of it. Now I need a palate-cleanser for my palate-cleanser.
