A Great Book!

When things fall apart is really great book.
Although it started out rough and heavy with the language and vulgar language, it turned out to be one captivating police story.
Kit Hanover, a rookie detective that gets her first homicide case, is taken through a whirlwind of events that affect her family and herself personally when she's faced with a relentless murderer who is good at covering his tracks.
From going through the obstacles that Kit goes through in her daily detective life, the police work and procedures, the representation of the chain of command within the police force, and the investigative procedures used by detective, Alan Brenham truly details the daily life of Kit.
I would have given this book an all-around 5 stars if it wasn't for the narrator Tanya Reuter whom I found really annoying! She did a poor job, escpecially when it came to changing her voice for the different characters.
I would really recommend this book as it keeps you hooked till the end when the story unfolds.
This book got me really interested in the rest of the Kit Hanover Series.

Good - but audio version could be improved

This is a book I read and listed to at the same time. I found the narration a littel too fast for my liking, ending up playing it at the reduced speed of x0.9, and the sound quality could have been better. But this was made up by a good story overall.

Captivating and Compelling Story

Great book from start to finish. You can feel the extensive research the author made (and from his personal experience as well) by the detailed description of police workm the detective work, and the life of a detective, especiall a rookie Kit Hanover who gets to face a murderer, rapist, and attacker that threatens her entire family. I only found the narration to be a bit off-putting. But overall, a great story.

Gripping Thriller

Alan Brenham does a great job in this gripping crime drama. I was captivated from beginning till end to know the identity of this killer. The story takes on a lot of twists and turns that kept me attentive listening till the end.
I was not impressed with the narration much. The changing in voices between different characters in the story was not well met.
Overall it is a good thriller!

A Gritty Detective

The opening scene, characterized by relentless violence and unfiltered dialogue, was undeniably intense. The use of ethnic slurs and baiting by the veteran detective, Wade, was jarring, to say the least. The initial impression left me questioning if this was a ride I really wanted to take.
Setting aside the initial impression, the investigation and portrayal of police work were commendable. The storyline, once you are through with the initial turbulence, proved to be engaging and thought-provoking. The attention to detail in depicting the intricacies of a detective's life were noteworthy. I was impressed with the character of detective Kit Hanover.
While the storyline and police procedural aspects managed to reclaim interest, the narration remained a consistent stumbling block. The potential for a gripping crime thriller was hindered by the failure to translate the raw intensity of the plot with its different characters, into an engaging audio experience.
