Awakening, informative

This was a profound read for me as I have lived and loved someone with this disorder. I learned so much from this book that I started listening to it all over again after I finished it the first time, possibly because i finally didn’t feel alone.

Decent book from a different perspective.

A really decent book, and I love how it's from the perspective of someone with bipolar disorder. This is important because it helps people realize that bipolar people are humans also, and they don't purposely do the things they do. This book is extremely surface level, and kind of outdated as well. It feels like one of the early bipolar books where they knew about the disorder but didn't know too much about what to do. It's just a lot of surface level advice like go to a therapist, take medicine, etc, but there's not really a lot of information on what to do in certain situations, communication skills, or how to establish boundaries. A lot of the surface level advice is also harmful even though the author states this. Shock therapy is recommended in this book which at the time was seen as ok, but new studies have shown it to be harmful. This book needs to be updated, but overall if you don't know anything about bipolar disorder, this is a relatively good start.
