Publisher's summary

A Goth girl with an attitude problem, Elizabeth Davis must learn to control her anger before it destroys her. Emily Delgado appears to be a smart, sweet girl with a normal life, but as depression clutches at her, she struggles to feel normal. Both girls are in Ms. Diaz's English class, where they connect to the words of Emily Dickinson. Both are hovering on the edge of an emotional precipice. One of them will attempt suicide. And with Dickinson's poetry as their guide, both girls must conquer their personal demons to ever be happy.

In an emotionally taut novel that is equal parts literary and commercial, with a richly diverse cast of characters, listeners will relish in the poetry of Emily Dickinson and be completely swept up in the turmoil of two girls fighting for their lives.

Not just for "kids"

Well written, gripping.

It reminded me of my old love of Emily Dickinson poetry. It reminded me that we really only see the outer shell of people, we don't usually think about what is going on inside. It is supposed to be a Young Adult book (and of course it is), but it is a book well worth reading by adults and particularly present or past parents of young adults. The message is worth thinking about by all.

Having had a tough time recently I forgot how reading and poetry can help reach our own inner feelings.

“Hope” is the thing with feathers -
That perches in the soul -
And sings the tune without the words -
And never stops - at all -

It was ok

Maybe I wasn’t a huge fan because it wasn’t my type of book but I can say it was well written sometimes I struggled to tell the difference between characters when listening but other than that Cassandra did good :)

Starts Out Slow

The story picks up after a few chapters, but this was an overall good book. The way everything is described is breath-taking.
