Publisher's summary

New York Times best-selling author Lauren Weisberger returns with a novel starring one of her favorite characters from The Devil Wears Prada - Emily Charlton, first assistant to Miranda Priestly, now a highly successful image consultant who's just landed the client of a lifetime.

Welcome to Greenwich, CT, where the lawns are manicured, the Long Island iced teas are extra strong, and heads turn when an infamous new neighbor arrives for an extended long weekend.

After Emily Charlton left Miranda Priestly and Runway magazine, she migrated to Los Angeles with her husband, working most recently as an image consultant to the stars. But recently Emily's lost a few clients. She's struggling. When the opportunity arrives to reinvent and relaunch a gorgeous former model whose mugshot graces the cover of the New York Post, Emily jumps at the chance. Relaunching Karolina is the big leagues.

Until eight weeks ago, Karolina was also the wife of an up-and-coming hotshot senator from New York. On the heels of her husband's very public philandering, Karolina finds herself arrested for drunk driving - with a Suburban full of other people's children. Her only true friend is Miriam, a hotshot New York City attorney turned stay-at-home-mom who lives in tiny Greenwich - conveniently close to Karolina and Graham's summer "cottage".

Miriam, Emily, and Karolina make an unlikely trio, but they need each other. Badly. Together, they'll navigate the social landmines of the suburbs on the path to reinvention - unearthing truths that were stirring below the surface all along, and getting a bit of revenge along the way. With her signature biting, dazzling style, Lauren Weisberger offers a glittering look into a sexy, over-the-top world like no one else can.

Overall Enjoyable

Overall, this was a wonderful, uplifting novel. It was hilarious, well-written, and albeit predictable. The narrator was excellent, particularly with one of the main characters accents, and I found her very enjoyable to listen to. My only qualm is there is a little female cattiness and bad mouthing in this book, which I’m really hoping authors start to get away from, but overall the story was interesting and fun.

Really Fun

I had a really good time listening to this book. The narrator did a great job with her inflections and keeping me into it but the story was fun and interesting. I def suggest it.

Perky and fun, an easy listen

I enjoyed hearing this one. The performance by Laura Benanti was great; she’s so easy to listen to.

The story by Lauren Weisberger was cute and fun. It flowed well and didn’t leave the listener with any loose ends. It was easy to follow, even if you don’t know or remember all the details from the previous “Miranda and Emily” book.

Good entertainment/ easy listen. Go for it.

Good

I always enjoy the coarse realism of a Lauren Weisberger book, and this one was pretty good.

One complaint though, this book did zero favours to hard done by wives. Karolina had her reputation, and her dignity, and her relationship with her child VIOLATED by the psychopathic politician she married. It’s good that she eventually regained her relationship with her son, but after everything that man did to her she should’ve brought down the hammer! There was no redemptive arc for this woman. She didn’t find herself, she didn’t get angry, she didn’t punch hard, she didn’t conceptualize her errors. She got lucky because she had friends in high places.

Why do women inevitably end up content and domesticated, instead of vindicated through viciousness? It’s a stereotype about weakness and gentility, perpetuated in this book, and in the rest of popular culture, and I don’t like it.

Well-performed

Ms Benanti’s performance is enjoyable, but does not compensate for Ms Weisberger’s lackluster writing. A good concept and storyline, but could have been less fluffed out with Greenwich vs Manhattan cliches.
