Publisher's summary

New York Times best-selling author Lauren Weisberger returns with a novel starring one of her favorite characters from The Devil Wears Prada - Emily Charlton, first assistant to Miranda Priestly, now a highly successful image consultant who's just landed the client of a lifetime.

Welcome to Greenwich, CT, where the lawns are manicured, the Long Island iced teas are extra strong, and heads turn when an infamous new neighbor arrives for an extended long weekend.

After Emily Charlton left Miranda Priestly and Runway magazine, she migrated to Los Angeles with her husband, working most recently as an image consultant to the stars. But recently Emily's lost a few clients. She's struggling. When the opportunity arrives to reinvent and relaunch a gorgeous former model whose mugshot graces the cover of the New York Post, Emily jumps at the chance. Relaunching Karolina is the big leagues.

Until eight weeks ago, Karolina was also the wife of an up-and-coming hotshot senator from New York. On the heels of her husband's very public philandering, Karolina finds herself arrested for drunk driving - with a Suburban full of other people's children. Her only true friend is Miriam, a hotshot New York City attorney turned stay-at-home-mom who lives in tiny Greenwich - conveniently close to Karolina and Graham's summer "cottage".

Miriam, Emily, and Karolina make an unlikely trio, but they need each other. Badly. Together, they'll navigate the social landmines of the suburbs on the path to reinvention - unearthing truths that were stirring below the surface all along, and getting a bit of revenge along the way. With her signature biting, dazzling style, Lauren Weisberger offers a glittering look into a sexy, over-the-top world like no one else can.

Great reader! The acting was the best I've heard!

Interesting culturally but at times it got a bit much for me with the drugs, sex, etc. I like to know what's going on but could people really this shallow? I understand the humor and still gave it a "4" overall!

one big product placement saga.. brand after brand

brand after brand promoted in the narrative..I got tired of hearing the brand names.. although I should have known from the title! I had loved The Devil Wears Prada movie.. had not read that book.. brands pay for such product placement ..I prefer compelling stories that are not peppered with brand name dropping ..

Meh

Just meh. I actually wish I read the book rather than listening - since it’s a novel, I’d rather imagine the voices. The narrator has to do women, men, and children - and I hate to say it, but it gets annoying.

Also, it drives me crazy that the Senator from New York lives in Connecticut. Maybe he has a residence in the city. Overall, the plot is blah...even for a beach read.

Not as good a The Devil Wears Prada but much better than second book.

It is slow getting started but hang in there. The original characters return with enough new ones to keep it interesting. Narration was good except when reader tried to do voices. I really hate that.

One of Weisberger's more charming offerings

Revisiting Emily from The Devil Wears Prada never disappoints. As one of the most original and memorable characters Weisberger has created, Emily knows how to show you a good time. That said, this story falls into a number of old traps for Weisberger. The will-they-won't-they cheating, the magic fixes only Miranda can provide, the secret sadnesses of the rich and lovely, the neat bow of an ending, etc. That said, this book made me feel as though Weisberger is finally hitting her stride. After weathering disasters like "Chasing Harry Winston", it's good to see the old sparkle come back. Finally, and perhaps most importantly for an audio book, the narration is excellent. A worthy investment of your listening time.

holy body shaming!

first of all the author body shames SO bad through the whole book. way to uplift women, especially suburbans moms (said in serious sarcasm). the author also does the worst voices for characters. she made it hard to listen to the book. blah. skip this one.
