Publisher's Summary

Secret lives and new loves emerge in the bright Caribbean sunlight, in the follow-up to national best seller Winter in Paradise

A year ago, Irene Steele had the shock of her life: her loving husband, father to their grown sons and successful businessman, was killed in a helicopter crash. But that wasn't Irene's only shattering news: He'd also been leading a double life on the island of St. John, where another woman loved him, too.

Now Irene and her sons are back on St. John, determined to learn the truth about the mysterious life - and death - of a man they thought they knew. Along the way, they're about to learn some surprising truths about their own lives, and their futures.

Lush with the tropical details, romance, and drama that made Winter in Paradise a national best seller, What Happens in Paradise is another immensely satisfying pause-resister from one of American's most beloved and engaging storytellers.

Critic Reviews

"You'll be counting the days until you can return to the Virgin Islands with these characters in the concluding volume of the trilogy. Print the bumper sticker - 'I'd Rather Be Living in an Elin Hilderbrand Novel.'" (Kirkus, starred review)

"Once again, Hilderbrand demonstrates her mastery of immersive escapism with a carefully deployed pineapple-banana smoothie or the blue tile of an outdoor shower.... The absolute pleasure of the reading experience combined with a cliff-hanger ending will have readers anxiously awaiting the conclusion to the trilogy." (Booklist, starred review)

Ends in the middle of a non-finished Trilogy.

I preordered this book because it is by one of my favorite authors. I didn't know it was a continuation or a trilogy. I didn't love the first one...and this 2nd book was less good than that.

However, my complaint is that the book ended right in the middle of the story. No conclusions. No word to "stay tuned." Nowhere. Therefore, I'd recommend waiting to buy it for a year until the 3rd part of the story is out...then listen to the last two parts together.

Given the above, I wouldn't have wasted the credit.

The narrator, Erin Bennett, remains one of my all-time favorites, though.

Omg just get the story out!

Great book but come on!!! We want the real story. This is dragging it out. I so looked forward to the sequel to this book and read it in 4 days and now how Long do I have to wait. Such a disappointment

Disappointed

I really did not care for the way the story ended, felt very unfinished to me.

Pretty good but could be better

I have been looking forward to this book coming out all year and listened as soon as it dropped. I have to say overall it wasn’t so bad and I’m not unhappy with it, but I was a little surprised when it ended as I felt like not too much had happened in this second installment. I’m still really looking forward to the final book in this series, so hopefully this one just sets that one up for a good finish.
