Publisher's summary

People can say till the cows come home that life is full of surprises, but falling in love with my best friend isn’t gonna work!

A snippet about me? Let’s see...I’m Skeet Lopez, Mom’s from right here in Comfort, Alabama, and Dad’s from Mexico. I love to bake and clog in that order. Did you know that clogging for one hour can burn up to 400 calories? Think about how many chocolate chip cookies that will allow me to eat!

I’ve got my plan firmly fixed in place—save up to purchase the bakery I manage. Falling for Jasper is not part of the picture. Why did I have to see him shirtless out washing his car? Good goody do. It should be against the law for that man to go shirtless!

Just when I think I’ve got my life worked out, everything explodes...or is it implodes? Gah! I can never keep my words straight. Who has time to worry about words, I’ve got bigger fish to sear here, err, fry. My beloved bakery is being snatched from me, and there’s not a dang thing I can do about it.

On the upside, I’m getting the chance to date the guy I’ve been crushing on since I was old enough to wear lipstick. I should be happier about it, right? I would be, except Jasper is being so annoying about the whole thing! What’s his deal? He already told me in no uncertain terms that I’m not his type! I got the memo loud and clear. I’m moving on. I mean it. No backsliding. No drooling over his cut muscles or crooked grin. And most important, zero fantasizing about how it would be if the two of us could become more than friends....

If you like flirty heroines, swoon-worthy hunks, and a dash of dramatic angst, then you’ll adore USA Today best-selling author Jennifer Youngblood’s small-town romp.

Fun, sweet Southern romcom!

A fun, sweet romcom that’s a perfect rainy day or summer vacation read. Jennifer Youngblood has a way of creating endearing characters with that touch of whimsy that makes them worth cheering for. Set in the small town of Comfort, Alabama, this story had that charming Southern hospitality feel with a slow-burn friends to more romance, some definite drama, and even a few mean girls thrown in.

Skeet has been best friends with Jasper for a long time. He inadvertently hurt her romantic aspirations for him when they were in high school. Since then, Skeet is afraid of a lot of things but most especially of changing their relationship, even though Jasper is putting out all the vibes that he wants more than friendship including a searing kiss. When a long time crush suddenly becomes single, Skeet wonders if her romantic dreams might come true, even if Jasper is so incredibly cute and totally against it. Will these two ever get their acts together and admit their feelings?

Skeet is a complicated character who has the endearing quality of misquoting idioms. She has dreams of owning her own bakery and is doing everything she can to save for it. I enjoyed her befriending a curmudgeon of a guy named Henry. Jasper is a firefighter who takes all the wrong advice when trying to move his relationship with Skeet forward. It’s a wonder these two are friends. I loved their dancing together and the way she finally decides to share her feelings with Jasper. Despite frequent drama, I liked how things ended.

The audiobook version was good. I liked the narrator. Her Southern accent was perfect for the story. I enjoyed the way she voiced each character with the right amount of emotion.

Recommend this cute romcom to those who enjoy sweet romance and happily ever after endings. Though part of a series, it can definitely be read as a standalone. I purchased a copy from Audible but also received a complimentary copy of the paperback from the author. All opinions are my own and I was not required to provide a positive review. 3 1/2 stars raised to 4.
