Just any warlock. Oh no, I'm a warlock for hire. Need magical assistance? I'm your guy. Whatever you need: spells, cures, or potions - I can provide. For a price. My life gets a tad more difficult when one particular customer comes knocking. Enter Ashley Sheridan. She's sexy, mysterious, and in a whole lot of trouble. I should have turned her away, but I just can't resist a good mystery. So I poked my nose where it doesn't belong and landed myself in trouble with a malignant seer. I have to do as he says or people are going to die. I'm not really known for cooperation, so I'll just have to find a way to kill him, before he kills the people I care about.

Story
I thought that learning magic from a druid master was tough, but that was before I started taking lessons from an insane quasi-god. For six long months, I’ve been suffering under Click’s tutelage, boning up on my magic skills so I can survive the wrath of several Celtic gods and find a cure for my druid mentor, Finnegas. It’s my fault that the old man is hanging on by a thread, and I’m determined to save his life.

Story
Dustin Graves has three days to live. The darkling mage has found himself in the company of scoundrels. Maybe that’s what Dustin deserves: a werewolf, a vampire, and a talking sword for teammates, and a rogue sorcerer as his mentor and master. But a doomsday cult has surfaced. Twelve mutilated bodies are found drowned in blood and in wine. The massacre stinks of both the divine and the supernatural. Worst of all, an ancient god sends Dust on a lethal mission, one he must complete in three days. The reward? He gets to live. Well...maybe.

My name is Ethan Drake and I’m a police detective...and I got plenty darkness to give.So does my partner, who’s a demon, and frankly, a royal pain in my ass. But occult investigators are in short supply in the PD, so what are you going to do? Anyway, we just caught a body-snatching case that has the stench of occult workings all over it. Seems someone wants to summon something bad into this world, something that threatens the very fate of humanity. I could care less about the fate of humanity myself, but hey, when it’s your job, you gotta do something, right?

Below the burning lakes of everlasting woe and the single, vast city of Hell, lies Sheol — the Hell below Hell. A place of absolute nothingness, occupied only by fallen demons, slain angels, and lost souls. No sight. No sound. Nothing but the infinite expanse of muted, inky blackness to serve as maddening companions for all of eternity. And that’s exactly where John must go to try and save those he loves, and those who trusted him.

After defending the landlord in a bloody battle with few survivors, Eddie sets himself in Sebastian’s sights, and staying out of it is no longer an option.
Sebastian is over a thousand years old and impervious to magic. Every attempt to take him down is thwarted. The Master Vampire comes after Eddie and all the people he cares about. As the casualty list grows, Eddie is forced to work with less-than-trustworthy people. He soon finds himself caught in the middle of a fight between the Syndicate and the Alliance of Covens and has to find a way to keep his town free of both.

Definitely Getting Darker
Eddie is maturing, as well as the storyline. They have a much more sinister plot and Eddie, while still the sarcastic wizard, is finally not just thinking about himself. A lot of his friends are playing a bigger part in his world, whether he likes it or not, and his enemies are coming back too. I felt like the previous stories were all really building up to this book. This felt intricately designed and worked really well.
I liked how the story has matured as we progress through the books. I feel like the author takes the story a bit more serious as he also makes it a bit more unpleasant. This was a bit more emotional than the previous stories and for different reasons. I think the author has really found his stride and at no point can you compare this to the other wizard story that people like to compare this to. I think the dark undertones of this story really make this standout.
Like I said, I thought this plot was a lot more mature and more sinister. The villains in this seemed to have a darker presence and committed darker crimes in order to enlist the help of Eddie. Sebastian and Rachel are willing to stop at nothing and all is fair in war. I really liked hearing how Team Eddie works through everything and seeing the changes Eddie has been making towards being a more mature and reliable person.
As he does with all of his narration, Hannibal Hills continues to bring this series to life. At this point Hannibal is Eddie and I wouldn’t have it any other way. His character voices are perfect and I suggest you just sit back, close your eyes, and let him take you off into Sean Stone’s Realm.

Best of the series! Great dark fantasy!
Warlock At War (Arcane Inc., Book 4) by Sean Stone and narrated by Hannibal Hills is the best of the series so far. It keeps getting better and better with each book. If you’re looking for a dark world with a snarky warlock, you should def give this a listen.
What’s it about? Adrian is cashing in on the favor Eddie and Ashley owe him. Unfortunately it has to do with vampire business and they find themselves fighting a war they hadn’t planned on. It’s full of action from start to finish. I enjoyed the twists, turns, and darkness. The characters are developing nicely and great world building. I have no critic for this particular book in the series- it’s a great addition.
The narrator, Hannibal Hills, does a great job. He certainly nails Eddie and helps make the book stand out.
Overall I recommend, especially if darker fantasy with magic is your thing. When I first started this series I wasn’t sure if I would continue as the first book is good, but not great and it took a little bit of warming up to Eddie/his character developing, but once that happened, I found I could not put this series down. Make sure if you start this series, you stick with it through the second book.
Parental guidance/trigger warnings: this particular book has a focus on war between two groups- there’s death, animal torture (don’t worry, it ends for the better thanks to Eddie), violence, or similar things. The MC suffers from PTSD, although he doesn’t say it specifically, it’s implied (his enemy, who also raised him, killed his parents at a young age and then used him as she wanted/trained him to do bad things- no sexual abuse). Language used: F x30, S x18.

Love Eddie!
I received this book for free at my request but the opinion is of my own. Eddie is back and going to war. Vampires are trying to take over Maidstone and no one else dares to try to stop them. Even Clara who has a coven because of a treaty. So with his back against the wall Eddie has to stop a war from coming, to save his city, and to keep his friends safe. With the help of his great friends can Eddie find a way to stop the vampire war before it’s too late?

Another Great Read!
Eddie is my favorite warlock ever! I was so worried for him in this book, I didnt want him to be a warlock vampire and Im glad he worked that out. I knew Matt would not leave Emma and Im glad they are able to protect themselves now though because being Eddies friend has it drawbacks haha. All these books are sooo fun to read! You can start anywhere but you will want to go back and read the first one no matter where you start because, backstory. To my understanding there are more to come and I am very excited for that. So anyone reading this review, get started now so you can catch up! Dont want to be late to read the new ones too :)

This guy’s even tougher, what will they do now?
This is the fourth book I’ve read/listened to by this author and I would listen to another. I’m quite enjoying these books. Each one is a standalone but listening in order will fill small gaps that would be there if listened to out of order.
The coven of witches is a part of this story but not main players. Once again Eddie does what is needed (and controversial) to deal with the current threat. Most previous characters make it into this story.
This is the eighth book I’ve listened to by this narrator ( Hannibal Hills ) and I would listen to anything he narrates. I love the voices he creates and his ability to bring out the emotions and personalities of the characters. He turns the books into a movie in my head. I love how he portrays Eddie.
There are no explicit sex scenes, but is mild reference to a sex act , there is not any excessive violence, but there is swearing.

I love this series. Eddie and the gang keep on the edge of my seat the entire time. This book had a lot going on and lots of changes to some of the characters. This is definitely one of my favorite series. I get so involved with the story i hate to see it end But yet i while i am listening/reading i can;t wait to see how it ends.

Great Story
To be honest i struggled to get into the story, but i persevered with the great narration keeping me going. The story eventually gripped me and i remembered why i loved the first books so much.
