Resumen del Editor

This book dares to win, equipping people of faith to fight victoriously, especially for family, when life is not as it should be.

We live between two gardens: Eden and the New Jerusalem. Between the gardens there is only desert; a biblical metaphor for life. Three main words in the Hebrew language describe the desert: midbar, t’siyah, and yashiymown—three kinds of deserts and metaphorically three kinds of life experience. In midbar you can survive if you know what you are doing. Midbar is what we call, normal. It’s not exactly right, but it’s as good as it gets outside the Garden.

In t’siyah you can survive if you have help. This is deeper, darker, hotter, and even more chaotic. There are times in life when the soul of your family is scorched. In the t’siyah parts of life, you can’t survive unless you have help. Yashiymown is desert you cannot survive. Yashiymown is wild, unbearable, and unfit for dwelling. In this time of life, only a miracle from God and His presence will sustain you and your family.

Life between the gardens is a desert. It’s all challenging but some parts are almost impossible. The most important action we can take to lead our families through such a war in the wilderness is to cry out to God. He will hear you.

Much Needed Direction and Reminders for Challenging Topics

War in the Wilderness provides a much needed writing of biblical direction and a few reminders for the often forgotten or neglected spiritual battle that wages daily. Brian Haynes offers a transparent view into his family while navigating through challenging but necessary topics.
Teaching from a mixture of experience and study, War in the Wilderness may not be received well by everyone, but make no mistake that it is for everyone, whether they want to admit it or not.

Hope and help for hurting families.

Dr. Haynes exposes the traumas and deceptions that can wreck our families as a spiritual war that we are engaged in. Not only a war, but one fought in the wilderness. Each chapter gives practical insight and tools to believers to empower us to fight for ourselves and our families in Jesus’ name. Being reminded of the enemy’s arsenal of lies was the most impactful for me.

Great book. The last two chapters are the most solid and practical, but Haynes lays the groundwork throughout.

“Family is God’s design for Gospel demonstration and spiritual formation globally from one generation to the next.”

READ THIS CHALLENGE:
“We spend all our time and money on academics and sports hoping our children will succeed. It’s a two-for for humanism. They get to play at the next level, and we as parents get to look good for the world. Of course this pursuit leaves many families exhausted with little investment—neither time nor money—in the Biblical discipleship of our own children. What if we invested an equal amount of time and money in the faith development of our children and grandchildren as we do in their academics, sports and artistic pursuits.”

He also makes a great distinction between the feelings of shame and the conviction of the Holy Spirit:
“Lies of shame and blame put us in an emotional and spiritual prison. The conviction of the Holy Spirit leads us to freedom.”
