Publisher's Summary

The number one internationally best-selling, gripping true story of a front line trauma surgeon operating in the world’s most dangerous war zones

For more than 25 years, surgeon David Nott has volunteered in some of the world’s most dangerous conflict zones. From Sarajevo under siege in 1993 to clandestine hospitals in rebel-held eastern Aleppo, he has carried out life-saving operations in the most challenging conditions, and with none of the resources of a major metropolitan hospital. He is now widely acknowledged as the most experienced trauma surgeon in the world.

War Doctor is his extraordinary story, encompassing his surgeries in nearly every major conflict zone since the end of the Cold War, as well as his struggles to return to a “normal” life and routine after each trip.

Culminating in his recent trips to war-torn Syria - and the untold story of his efforts to help secure a humanitarian corridor out of besieged Aleppo to evacuate some 50,000 people - War Doctor is a heart-stopping and moving blend of medical memoir, personal journey, and nonfiction thriller that provides unforgettable, at times raw, insight into the human toll of war.

Incredible book

Awesome story of a trauma surgeon in unbelievable environments around the world. Appropriate for both non medical and medical audience. As a fellow surgeon I felt the level of medical detail was perfect.

A M A Z I N G ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

What an incredible man Dr David Nott is. The beginning of the book starts off in short bits of sentences which was a little disconcerting.
However, I slowed down the speed and it was a marvellous listen. Highly recommended.

I never knew the struggles of war doctors

I never fully understood the life of a war doctor until I read this book. i will forever look at the TV show m.a.s.h in a whole new way. Dr. Nott breaks down trauma surgery so that the layman would understand the complexity of putting war wounded people back together again.

Painfully moving

This is one of the most powerful stories I have ever listened to. What was allowed to happen in Syria should shame the people world. To Dr Nott and all those who respond to the cries of those in need, Thank you.

A book about a truly gifted human.

David Nott gives an honest, and stark look at what doctors, nurses, and other clinical staff endure in bringing healing to people in war torn, and disaster impacted regions, where medical help is little seen.
The dangers those healers face, and the obstacles they encounter, without modern medical technology to assist them.
If you are expecting a modern MASH story you will be disappointed, but if you want to hear a story that will break your heart, make you cry and laugh, and give you hope that caring human beings do exist then this book is for you!

Riveting.

I am in awe of Dr. David Nott the person and the surgeon. His story is captivating, and told with refreshing honesty and humility. As a retired emergency medicine physician, I enjoyed his recounting of the innumerable medical and surgical crises he was involved in, any one of which would have stretched my own clinical skills and endurance to the absolute limit in the setting of a modern, first-world hospital. That he was able to repeatedly perform complicated, heroic, limb- and life-saving surgery in operating theaters that were often literally under enemy attack is mind boggling. I am simply in awe of Dr. Nott's courage, compassion, medical and surgical skills, and altruism. He is more than a credit to his profession. He is an inspiration to physicians everywhere, regardless of their specialty, WAR DOCTOR is a compelling, beautifully written and well-narrated (by the author) narrative that will become a non-fiction classic.
