Publisher's Summary
Most important Wall Street Terms you should know
If you have ever gotten lost in the jargon of Wall Street, you aren’t alone. Professional money managers and traders often sound like they're speaking a foreign language, which can leave small investors at a disadvantage.
Unfortunately, jargon is likely to be here to stay, just as it is in sectors outside the financial world. Whether you’re just flirting with investing or head-over-heels for the stock market, you’ll eventually hear some phrases that give you pause.
Does Wall Street jargon confuse you?
The language used by Wall Street professionals can make reading financial news difficult to understand for those outside the business, and can certainly be intimidating for an irregular observer, that is unfamiliar with the ways of Wall Street.
Understanding what they're actually saying will help you make smarter investing decisions.
With that in mind, here's a primer on the A to Z of the Wall Street universe. This practical glossary of Wall Street terms covers everything from investment fundamentals to the sophisticated terminology of contemporary finance.
This practical wall street guide will help you understand:
- New York Stock Exchange History
- New York Federal Reserve Bank
- Glass-Steagall Act and Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform Act
- Securities and Exchange Commission
- TARP Program and Economic Stimulus Package
- Mortgage-Backed Securities and Credit Default Swaps
- Stocks, Bonds, Options, and Derivatives
Over 140 of the most important and common Wall Street terms are explained in detail, with clear and concise article style descriptions and practical examples.
PLEASE NOTE: When you purchase this title, the accompanying PDF will be available in your Audible Library along with the audio.

Make some money.
Thomas Herold is a successful entrepreneur, best-selling author, mediator, and personal development coach with a marvelous wit. He's one of the best investors of all time, who pulls back the veils and mysteries of Wall Street to teach the reader that he too can succeed handsomely by just keeping it simple. I enjoyed this audio book very much, but I think One Up on Wall Street is more of a must listen. I would recommend starting with that one.

Highly Engrossing and Accessible Economic
If you have ever gotten lost in the jargon of Wall Street, I highly recommend this book. I've read or listened other books of the Mortgage-Backed Securities and Credit Default Swaps that left me scratching my head, but Mr. Thomas has a fluid and accessible writing style that allows the reader/listener to understand what happened, why it happened and how it is likely to happen again. This audio book is enraging since it clearly demonstrates how a Federal Reserve Bank of New York exactly works, while producing nothing of value to the public at large. he language used by Wall Street professionals can make reading financial news difficult to understand for those outside the business, and can certainly be intimidating for an irregular observer, that is unfamiliar with the ways of Wall Street. This practical glossary of Wall Street terms covers everything from investment fundamentals to the sophisticated terminology of contemporary finance.

Crucial for success
If you are looking for definitions of the strange language used on Wall Street. Thomas Herold filled the bill for that nicely. I used this book in a class on investing that I gave a couple of weeks ago to High School students that knew nothing about the market and they even said now they understand things a bit better when these terms are put into simple english. I would recommend it to anyone who wishes to learn some of the terms they come across in researching the Market. Very good for beginners and semi experienced. Good job. It was just what I was looking for. Thanks

Taking the confusion out of the market
If you have wandered through the maze of the financial and business worlds, amazed at the confusing flow of jargon that everyone else seems to understand, then this is a must have audiobook for you. It was written for investors who need to constantly increase their knowledge to stay on top of their game. However this book is also a valuable resource for anyone who needs or wants to increase their knowledge of the investment and business world. The author has taken a unique approach with the way he's organized his material. The material is arranged by subject matter and divided into sections and chapters. It is in alphabetical order within the sections. The Over 140 of the most important and common Wall Street terms of the book is very extensive and helped develop my understanding of the industry. The definitions are easy to read and understand. I learned that a circuit breaker has nothing to do with the electrical system in my house, runoff has nothing to do with a spring thaw and noise has nothing to do with the constant clamber from my kids!

Great Investment in Your Financial Future.
No one interested in Wall Street should be without this excellent dictionary/reference book. It is especially good for those who are new to investing. Since many companies are no longer offering retirement plans, and with the ease of investing online, there are many do-it-yourself investors who really do not know much about the market. Furthermore, the financial pros use terms that are incomprehensible to the public. This can sometimes create a barrier that turns off the potential investor. This book seeks to dissolve that barrier, explaining in easy to understand language, the definitions of Wall Street jargon.

Excellent -- for what it is!
Like all of Mr. Herold's writings, this little nugget pulls no punches and cuts straight to the chase. However, this volume is not so much different from Mr. Herold's other writings in that it sticks to the big picture, is brief, and contains a significant human element. These traits are important because it makes Mr. Herold's writings and poignant analysis of the wall street terms and its aftermath accessible to a broader spectrum of business readers. You probably need a cursory understanding of derivatives and the wall street terms to make this book a quick listen, but you definitely don't need any specialized knowledge of arcane derivatives concepts or finance. In short, this book is a beauty of Mr. Herold's writings and insight distilled to its key points and compacted into less than 11 hours.

Fantastic listen! I have read a few books on wall street terms and such and this is easily one of the best. I loved how the author maintained focus on the subject covers everything from investment fundamentals to the sophisticated terminology of contemporary finance and anecdotes that were relevant to the story and enjoyable to listen. If you are reading this review it means you might have some interest in the subject, and if you have even slight interest then all I can say is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!!!

Put on Your Thinking Cap
If you are an observer of Wall Street, you need to listen this book of a personal journey from an individual who really started as a technician and ended up as a statesman and consultant. The best part is that he kept his roots of family and what makes a well founded personal life. This is readable, yet challenges one to grasp mathematical concepts and analysis that can serve as great brain teasers. Anyone can get better at whatever they are trying to do by this read.

Gotta Love The Terms!!!
I wouldn't go to a foreign country without a phrase dictionary and I wouldn't consider doing investment research without Wall Street terms by my side. As author Thomas Herold points out, what happens on Wall Street doesn't stay on Wall Street. If you want to put your hard-earned money to work earning a solid ROI (return on investment) rather than taking a Random Walk and hoping for the best, you need this dictionary. With the wealth of information available on the internet, there is no reason why you can't make informed decisions about how and where to put your money to work for you. Fortunes are made by understanding the details involved in corporate investing but those all-important details are frequently hiding behind special terms and techniques that investors need to learn. Wall Street terms bridges the gap with quick, easy-to-understand 140 definitions and related terms so that you can cut to the chase and make good choices. The bottom line is that if you want to know what people are up to, you have to understand their language. Investors, business students and anyone whose job depends directly or indirectly on corporate America should own this book.

Business
I thought that the book was well written and very easy to understand. Provides a good historical background of Wall Street and how the markets got started. To nderstand the meaning behind the Following the financial crisis of 2007-2008, legislators unsuccessfully tried to reinstate Glass–Steagall Sections 20 and 32 as part of the Dodd–Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act discusses in the dialogue. Both in the United States and elsewhere around the world, banking reforms have been proposed that refer to Glass–Steagall principles. These proposals include issues of “ring fencing” commercial banking operations and narrow banking proposals that would sharply reduce the permitted activities of commercial banks. Five stars for helping the listeners understand Wall Street! Recommended for anyone just starting out in the market.

But the author prevents exhaustion, not only with a crisp writing style, but with a creative arrangement of the definitions. Yes, other dictionaries are strictly alphabetical. That's probably the reason that people read how-to books and novels, and they don't read dictionaries. But "Wall Street Terms" organizes its definitions by category. Instead of hunting up and down the alphabet to define an unfamiliar word in another definition, the author puts all related terms together. Listen a section, you'll understand a whole area of investing. Yet each piece is short, of course - definition sized - so you'll reach a stopping place before you get tired. For concepts that require more explanation, the author provides a brief, understandable summary. The result: you not only learn how Wall Street works, but how you can work Wall Street. The author provides simple explanations of rules and laws (and how they are bent, broken and enforced), basic finance and accounting, corporate structure, and types of investments. He even reviews common investment strategies, charting, and stock analysis. You'll learn about everything from the Glass-Steagall Act. A great general references for the investor.

Wall ST Investing Made Simple
I found the title of this book deceiving in the best way possible. Wall Street Terms is more a guided tour of Wall Street and its inner workings than a simple glossary of investment terms. Any novice to intermediate investor will benefit from Herold's backstage pass to one of the world's most lucrative investment forums. Herold keeps an otherwise dry and heavy read manageable with her extremely user-friendly format; on top of dividing the over 140 defined investment terms into logical chapters, a full index at the back of the book makes for quick referencing. At first glance, the sheer number of topics covered seems intimidating to the financially untrained eye. However, the step-by-step approach demystifies every aspect of investment, from the basics of exchange operations to interpreting financial statements to paying the tax man. Charts, tables and explanations of key strategies interspersed throughout the definitions in each chapter help to drive home important points. Those in need of extra investment help will find plenty of additional resources tucked into the back of the book, with lists of acronym definitions, investor resources and relevant publications. Wall Street terms delivered all that it promised and more. The up to date instruction and information is sure to benefit any potential or practicing investor wise enough to develop their investment knowledge before hitting the market. The way the information is presented is the icing on the cake, as even a beginner can navigate the guide and come out confident in their financial prowess in the end.

Your success as an investor
More than just a dictionary, this book gives in-depth, easy to understand explanations of financial terms. We here the jargon everyday, on the news, talking to a broker or reviewing our portfolios; but, are we positive we understand what the lingo means. If you have been dabbling in managing your portfolio, are an avid business news listener, or an amateur investor, this is one book that must be on your book library. It is designed to be easy to understand. Although it is essentially a dictionary, it reads like a book. I found myself listening each definition in order because the terms flowed into each other. The author organized the book by category. Each word or phrase is followed by a clear 2 to 3 sentence description; in addition, any acronyms that apply are listed by the phrase as well as the correlating website. There is a glossary of acronyms, websites and an index of terms. If you want to help understanding the common jargon used in the financial world today, Wall Street Terms is the perfect place to start. Unlike other financial dictionaries, it is fun and easy to understand. There is no doubt; it could be used as desk reference.

An Investor's Essential Guide
This book was surprisingly easy to understand and follow. It's fun, and you can pick it up and put it down whenever you want. It doesn't require a huge time commitment but is invaluable for anyone involved in the financial industry. Not only is Thom informative, but he has a fun and engaging writing style that makes you want to get started learning new terms and putting them to use right away. This is a great book for beginners such as myself, or for people who want to build upon previous market experience. I was expecting a dry read about technical and difficult financial terms, but instead found a jackpot of easily accessible terms and interesting information about how Wall Street works.

Comprehensive Reference Tool!
In this book, the author takes what seems to be an overwhelming amount of information on the subject of Wall Street and organizes it into easy to locate sections and chapters. This fact, more than anything else, is what I think sets this book apart from many other financial reference books. While many reference books (particularly in the financial realm) that I have read lay out information alphabetically and join them with confusing financial jargon, this book does a good job of defining the many phrases and words associated with Wall Street and putting them into layman's terms. As a result, I would recommend this book to anyone starting out in the world of Wall Street. Since I have had no previous experience at all with investing on Wall Street, I must say that the sheer volume of the text was overwhelming. But the organization of the book really helps and I think it will be even more helpful to those who have already dabbled some in the stock market and are looking for an easy to understand reference tool.

Not only how Wall St works, but how to work
While I think one up on Wall Street does a better job explaining investment principles. Besting the street build on Herold's initial book to outline how he grew the Magellan Fund and what he learned along the way
