It's been seven years since the Seattle Strangler terrorized the city. His victims were all young, pretty, their lifeless bodies found wrapped in a home-sewn white dress. But there was one who miraculously escaped death, just before the Strangler disappeared. Lara Church has only hazy memories of her long-ago attack. What she does have is a home in Austin, a job, and a chance at a normal life at last. Then Texas Ranger James Beck arrives on her doorstep with shattering news: The Strangler is back....

Trauma victims are not new to medical examiner Faith McIntyre, but this one is different. The unconscious woman clinging to life after a hit and run is FBI agent Macy Crow. What the woman from Quantico was doing in a dark alley after midnight is just one mystery. The other is more unsettling: Macy is Faith’s mirror image - the twin sister she never knew she had.

Publisher's Summary
The Smallest Mistake
Three went in; one came out. For five years, no trace has been found of two high-school friends who went hiking in the woods near Nashville. The third teen, Amber Ryder, was discovered at the bottom of a ravine with a broken arm, head trauma - and zero memory of the horror that put her there.
Will Put You
What started as a cold case has become a fresh hell for forensic technician Georgia Morgan. Another woman's body is found in the woods, and it leads to the missing teens' remains. But while Georgia works with Amber to try and reawaken her memories, her gut tells her the worst is yet to come.
At a Killer's Mercy
Homicide Detective Jake Bishop can't be sure whether Amber is an expert manipulator or the killer's next target. Either way, he's determined to protect Georgia. Because the deeper she digs into the past, the deadlier the secrets that emerge, and a nightmare years in the making is about to come to a bloody, terrifying end....

Is there anything you would change about this book?
the narrator
Would you be willing to try another book from Mary Burton? Why or why not?
sure, I have enjoyed many books by Mary Burton and was looking forward to Vulnerable. I can't give an honest review of the story because I couldn't get past the narration. I didn't finish the book.

Disappointing..
I have a great appreciation for the hard work and dedication that go into writing a book as well as performing it but this series left me extremely disappointed. Carrying the same characters through each book but having a different, progressively less pleasing, narrator really made me lose taste for the characters by the end. I finished each book because I enjoyed the plot/story but that's it.
This book left me wanting to return it very early on. Karen White did these characters justice in Cover your Eyes. I wish they had stayed with her throughout the series.

No Surprises
Very disappointed. Too many same adjectives used. He said, she said, used after a conversation which sounded very awkward. I knew early on the ending, so no surprise. Not her best work. I usually love her books but not this one. I will continue to read her books.

Disappointing
I was very excited to hear Georgia's story and so disappointed when I listened to it. The narrator has a good voice but, maybe just not for this book. She adopted a baby voice when Georgia spoke and it just didn't seem to mesh with the character. I get that she is kind of brat as the baby of the Morgan siblings but, the voice made it seem like she was a four year old. It was very hard to get through. It may have influenced how I felt about the book also. I feel like out of the Morgans only one of the brothers didn't come off like a jerk in the series and in this book they all seemed like big, arrogant jerks. The ending seemed rushed and the romance didn't flow very well. Honestly the whole book seemed rushed.I enjoy most of Mary Burton's books. They are typically a good "read" while working.

I'm now caught up with Ms. Burton so I'll have to move on for a bit. This was a great story with lots of twists and turns and then it was over. Two more chapters would have been even better. Just my opinion and certainly worth reading to see if you agree

Narration is awful
The story as usual is great but the actress’s voice is awful and her interpretation of how the main character speaks is dreadful. Her southern accent is also awful. It would have been a much better decision to read this book instead of listening to it.
