Publisher's summary

Not even gods are safe from the power of the fabled Doom-Forged weapon. Grim Jack didn’t set out to be the leader of Eldgard’s united armies, but with dungeons falling one by one and hordes of Vogthar pouring into the material plane, it’s up to him to save both citizens and travelers from digital destruction.

His doomsday weapon will take him straight into the heart of Morsheim, but once there, even the combined might of the Empire and the Crimson Alliance might not be enough. He’ll have to uncover secrets buried for millennia just to get within striking distance of a death god gone mad, and the choices he’ll make will change him and the world forever...

From James A. Hunter, the best selling author of the Yancy Lazarus Series, Rogue Dungeon, and Bibliomancer (The Completionist Chronicles Expanded Universe) comes the seventh installment in the LitRPG epic Viridian Gate Online! Jack's adventures in a cutthroat virtual reality fantasy world will grip fans of Ready Player One and The Stormlight Archive alike. With over 250,000 copies sold, this is one series you don't want to miss.

Really good until cliff hanger ending

This book was great until the author left us hanging right in the middle of the story. I understand having some leading cliffhanger to keep interest in the series. This was not done well. It felt like the story was just chopped off to split the book up in two. Will not likely continue with this series as a result.

Are. You. Kidding. Me.

Excellent addition to the series. A lot of pieces start coming together and clicking for the characters.

Then, then, the cliffhanger at the end left me saying the above.

Bingeworthy

I found this series about 2-3 months ago and blew through up to this one while listening on some earbuds while working. I've read a bunch of Lit RPGs and this one this probably my favorite so far. There is so much character growth for everyone in this series and the continuity was on point. This book constantly grabs bits of info from the earlier books and brings them back to inform you on how things were set in motion so early on. It's a great book I just wish it didn't end on this cliffhanger.

The characters are all cliches, the plot elements are all tropes and the author takes this story way too seriously

Litrpg is supposed to be fun stories with video game elements. After listening to this book it’s obvious the author has forgotten this as he has a desperate need to constantly try and crank things up to 11 regardless of how well it flows with the story. Add in the fact that the characters are two dimensional (that’s being generous) and the story elements are ALL standard issue tropes and it all adds up to a big pile of “meh.”

Read at your own risk but I think this will be the end of the story for me.

author needs a red pill

Non-stop cringe fest. Don't waste a credit. The main character is completely unrelatable and the women in the story are all incredibly overbearing and annoying. I can relate more to the bad guy in this story...

Another awesome VGO LITRPG

what can I say about this? James hunter writes awesome VGO. Every VGO story I have read or listened to has been amazing. I grew up on Weis & Hickman, dragon lance, ravenloft, forgotten realms, etc. as an adult VGO and LITRPG is the current generations answer to those stories. They have wonderful characters, plot elements, rpg classes, spells, artifacts, leveling. This story refines and expands more of the VGO world and it’s characters adding depth to an awesome realm with so many stories to be told. Listening/reading these as they come out is like watching a fantasy realm be created and brought to life piece by piece. Love it! I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator or publisher

Great addition to a great series

I love how this series has direction and is guided by the plot. The game mechanics are great and now that the characters are higher level we get to cooler skills and items. The narrator really excels.

PS. One heck of a cliffhanger at the end of this oh this book.

mostly enjoyed it.

overall it was a good story.
author has some strange attachment to certain words that you start to see a drastic overuse ie incredulous and beeline. in fact no character in the series walks anywhere or simply approaches. nope. they beeline towards everything. there is a love story component mixed in as well but it's barely touched on and you'll find yourself just not caring.
otherwise, it's a good listen while you work book.

The MC has become an idiot

The main character is getting increasingly stupid. He seems to forget he can effectively stop time, every crisis is caused by him "forgetting" all the powers and abilities he has, or a vital piece of information, it's just getting ridiculous. For what started as a genuinely good listen this series has become tedious.

6 out of 5 stars?

Hunter is still knocking the story out the park and although we are approaching the end the story continues to surprise me and keep me engaged.
Taylor again does great with his narration especially Jack.
Not much else i can say as this just refuses to keep out my fav list.

Minor Spoiler Alert!!

how is it that Jack has a key that literally opens anything, but Jack and his crew almost die because they are locked outside of the church??? they had to wait for the door to be picked. seems like a pretty big oversite on the authors side 😒
