Predictable but still enjoyable
If you fancy an extended stay in the South of France, with an unchallenging, predictable but fair paced plot, I recommend this book. I listened to it free as it is in the Plus Catalogue section.
I liked all the characters, but the best part was the description of pool-side suppers, the ice-cold rose wine and the lovely food. It is never really tense and nothing bad happens.
The narration is definitely in the 'this is theatrical acting' zone, but JF is very good at all the accents, and switches effortlessly between say, Scottish, to French, or Italian, so there are no painful moments.
I really enjoyed it and the fact that is was free is a real bonus - thank you!

Struggled with the accents
I quite enjoyed the story although it was fairly predictable. I found the French and Italian accents were far too strong to be comfortable to listen to, authentic or not.
Apart from that the performance was good.

story wained in last quarter
I enjoyed the story to start with and enjoyed the narrator. I started to get bored after 'the secret' was out and made the mistake of looking at reviews. One ruined the rest of the book by giving a huge spoiler for the only interesting bit left! Because of this I did not finish the book which I felt was dragging on anyway. There were lovely depictions of life in France but I was expecting an announcement that one character was an alcoholic, the amount of wine guzzled at every opportunity remarkable. It was a shame the thread about developing a guest house was not explored much further.

Somehow finished this
I think I only managed to listen to this because I'm desperate for a holiday somewhere sunny. 😂
Storyline is average, plods a bit and is quite predictable but fine for switching your mind off after work. I feel a significant amount of editing could still have been done, the character's actions/reactions are not believable, and there was a lot of 'we just need time to get to know each other' - could have been a drinking game, they said it so often.
However, what could have elevated this audiobook a little but actually made it worse was the cringey narration. Sometimes I almost thought the narrator had a tone of 'obviously this is what happens next, do you really need me to spell it out?'
Would not recommend. If you want a well-written book set in a Mediterranean villa for a bit of imaginary sunshine I suggest The Enchanted April.

Very enjoyable
This is the second book I’ve read/listened to by this author. (The other was Riviera Retreat which was also very good) I really enjoyed the story. Wish I could say that I’ve only ever read about such bitter vindictive characters as the old grandmother sadly some in my immediate family is even worse than she was however the main message in the story I think is one of forgiveness and moving forward and not letting the past ruin the present. Great book. I’m sure I’ll be rereading it at some point.

Heartwarming book
Absolutely loved this book! I found myself wanting more as the book went along, to see the cruel lengths that Amelia went to, to punish not only Josette but Carla as well and inflicted pain on others was astonishing. If you’re after a book with heartache, laughter and a HEA then this book is for you. The Narrator done an outstanding job in bringing life to this book. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.

the story dint do much for me
the story is nice. it's an easy to follow story.
the Narrator tried to do a French- English accent, I have no idea why it was so sing-songy! is that how French speak English ( iv never heard it among my friends) after a point it got so annoying.
but the voice impressions and emotions were very nice and I felt the story alot more. so thanks to the narrator for that. .

Great Read
Not the type of novel I would normal listen to. I thoroughly enjoyed it, loved the setting, characters and descriptions of the French Riviera. The narrator was great. I’ll look for further books by this author.

I liked it
I enjoyed this book - a few twists and turns - and even prompted me to ‘Google map’ where they were doing their day trips. Bring on international travel again - this made me want to jump on a plane to France!

Escapism on the French Riviera
I loved this involved family story set on the French Riviera. It was a perfect feel good escape from a tedious life in lockdown during the covid pandemic.
Jennifer Bohnet threw in just enough French to indulge my passsion for the French language and jogged my memories of travel in the south of France.

Story
Laurie Morgan runs a café in the small seaside community of Mermaids Point, named after the beauties rumoured to live in the waters off the top of the point. When a hazy image is posted online of what appears to be a mermaid, the café and the village are soon full to bursting with curious sightseers. The most eye-catching of the new arrivals is Jake Smith, who has rented a cottage for the summer while he works on his new book. Or so he says. In fact, he is a journalist, burned out and disillusioned with life, whose editor has sent him on a crack-pot hunt for mermaids....
