Intrigue and romance in the Caribbean.

When Finn's boss assumes the role of femme fatale, it ends badly for her. It's never a good idea to seduce your employee, but when his girlfriend is a cold-blooded killer, it's downright foolhardy.

Finn and his coworker Aaron Sanchez uncover a conspiracy to disrupt the U.S. political system. Finn's lady friend Mary Beth O'Brien has stolen files that name the conspirators. A coverup ensues. The agency they work for fires Sanchez and issues a warrant for Finn's execution, but Sanchez lands on his feet, and Finn's hard to kill.

And the hits keep on coming!

This book did not have as much action as the first two but don't let that lack fool you - there was tension aplenty. In fact, I spent this entire listen wondering if Marybeth was with or against Finn! It was never quite clear (until the end) and it made for some great heart palpitations!

Caution: You really need to listen to the first two books in this series first. This book picks up right where book two ends and even though you get information about what happened in the first two books, you can't really appreciate it without hearing the whole story. A lot of questions get answered in this listen.

I can never say enough about how great David Bosco's narration is. My only complaint about this listen is that it ended too soon. And that the next book is not ready yet.

As good as I expected it to be!

I just finished listening to this book and I sure wasn't disappointed in the least! I had no idea what to expect and couldn't stop listening until the end. I love how this series is full of suspense and I could never predict what was about to happen. I had a guess as to how this book was going to end....and I was wrong. It didn't end at all like I expected but it has a great ending! David Bosco gives a great performance, breathing life into these characters once again and making them feel real. I was voluntarily provided this review copy audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator.

Book Three Keeps the Tension Going.

A web of intrigue and duplicity is being woven around Finn. Will he be lured into the trap or outwit them all? Friends and foes at times seem to be interchangeable. Even after 3 novels, I'm still not sure if I trust Mary. The level of action in this series did not fade with book 3. I am looking forward to book 4.

Intriguing Series - Highly Recommend

I received this book for free. I am voluntarily posting this review and all opinions expressed herein are my own.

This is the third book in the J.R. Finn Sailing Mystery series. This is not a standalone book in that it wraps up many of the issues raised by the first (Assassins and Liars) and second (Avengers and Rogues) books in the series and sets up the next book in the series. Although the author kindly provided a quick summary of events which had occurred during the first two books at the beginning of book three, this is not the book to start this series as you will not really understand all the complicated relationships and the long sections of exposition.

This book starts with Finn deciding to gain answers about Mary and of course, determine whether his current employer is trustworthy given the ending of book two. I was excited that, as readers, we were finally going to learn who we could trust and gain insight into Finn's world. And you do, just not in the way I had thought when compared with the first two books.

The first two books had a lot of action and breathtaking moments with a twist around every corner. Given the ending of book two, I thought this was going to be another action-packed twister. However, this book was much quieter with a lot of investigating, phone conversations, and emails. Finn also spends a fair amount of time on introspection. Given their adversaries, I felt that the chess match between them was a bit simple and the wrap up a bit quick. For this series to be able to move forward in a different direction, this amount of exposition was necessary to wrap things up and move the characters on to new adventures. I did like the book, but I missed some of the tension and cleverness from the first two books. Overall, these characters, Mary and Finn, are interesting and compelling and I am looking forward to their continuing adventures.

The narration of this series by David Bosco is excellent. The different audio techniques to convey phone conversations or Finn's inner thoughts were very effective.

Who’s playing who? The game continues...

Vigilantes and Lovers (J.R. Finn Sailing Mystery Series, Book 3) by Charles Dougherty and narrated by David Bosco is another great book in the J.R. Finn Sailing Mystery Series! Recommend picking this series up if you enjoy mysteries with sailing elements or looking for something new.

The story continues with Mary and Finn attempting to uncover the other players in the game, but is it really as it seems? Old and new characters make an entrance and...exit. It always comes down to who’s playing who. And that’s all you’re getting due to spoilers. While this isn’t the strongest book in the series, it is an important one as a lot of questions are answered. There’s not as much action as the previous as the focus is on the detective work, but it’s still a fun listen.

David Bosco shines once again. I’d recommend listening to the audiobook as David’s narrations are wonderful and add to the story.

Parental guidance/trigger warnings: killing, drugging, and violence. Language used: slur used once (fa****),b x10, fx1,slut x2,s 20 plus times, h x7, d x11. The main characters are assassins.

*I was given a free review copy of the audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. Thank you for allowing me to listen and review the book!

The Mystery Continues!

This is the third book of the J.R. Finn Sailing Mystery.
Finn and Marry have confessed their love. However, it’s not clear, at the beginning, if Finn can completely trust her. She has been less than honest in the past. There seems to be a tangled web that needs to be untangled!
After reading these three books, I have imagined how my life would look living on the water. Good series. I’m about to start the fourth book.
The narrator, David Bosco, is awesome!

Who do you trust?

I'm not sure if I trust Mary yet... is she for or against Finn? I fear for his life when she is around but she does have his back when shes being good. As for his boss lady totaly different story. In the web of lies that intertwin their lifes, who do you trust? Your lover who is also a hired assissin? or yourself who are you? your a hired assissin also. go with your gut it hasnt failed you yet. Maybe Mary and Finn can make the perfect duo of hired assissins...
I recommend this series awesome narration and story.

Awesome series

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

I really enjoyed this installment of the J.R. Finn series. This book, in particular, was just as interesting and engaging as the first 2, but had an almost introspective feel to it. There wasn't quite as much action as the last books, but there was enough to hold my interest and keep things moving. I would highly recommend not jumping into this series out of order. They all build on what happened (and wrap up open items) in the last book(s). The narration is outstanding and I'm definitely going to keep going on the series.

Vigilantes and Lovers

Wow this series just get more intriquing as you listen to each addition to the series. Finn isn't sure what to think. The Author and Narrator do a fantastic job at the twists and turns of this story. And I love how the characters are brought out as well. These assassins really no there stuff. This is a real page turner that had me on the edge of my seat. This is definitely a series that is a must listen. And the book covers are fantastic as well.

If you can hear hoofbeats think horses not zebras

Third in the series and Finn and Mary (or whoever she is today) are still having a difficult time with trust issues - could be because Mary is constantly lieing.. But one thing they can agree about, Nora has to die.

Told in the first person from Finn's perspective, the assassin tries to resolve his fears about his newly found lover and relies upon old friend and colleague, Aaron, to chase information about their boss and the mysterious Forces. Once again set mostly aboard Island Girl in the beautiful Caribbean islands, this book is a pleasure to read as well as an exciting political thriller. Vigilantes and Lovers can be read as a stand alone, but for full pleasure and understanding it is definitely advisable to have previously read Assassins and Liars (book one) and Avengers and Rogues (book two) in the J .R.Finn Sailing Mystery series. They will not disappoint.
Narration throughout is by the very talented David Bosco, who becomes the voice of Finn, as well as giving individual appropriate voice to all of the protagonists, reading throughout with good pacing and perfect understanding of the text. His is a fine performance, enhancing an a!ready excellent book.

I was very fortunate in being freely gifted with a complimentary copy of Vigilantes and Lovers, by the rights holder at my request. Thank you so much. I really enjoy this series, there is something serene about it despite all of the activity, conspiracy and betrayal. The writing is excellent, the relationship tempestuous, the characters realistic and the mental scenery superb. Plus it's an original and excellent story. Highly recommended.
