Publisher's Summary

Explore the captivating history of the Vietnam War!

The Vietnam War represented a watershed not only in American and Vietnamese history but also internationally. It wasn’t just a battle between two nations, but between two ideologies, two military strategies, and a fight for the hearts and minds of two vastly different national populations.

Few conflicts in global history symbolize as much as Vietnam. From the civil rights movement to the role of the media in warfare, the Vietnam War was unique in the sense that it could not be contained as a military matter but transcended every area of Vietnamese and American society. The word "Vietnam" describes an era of history, not just an isolated war in a small nation in Southeast Asia. It is the lens through which the America and Vietnam of today must be interpreted. Few conflicts have or will ever shape the world as much as the Vietnam War.

Some of the topics and questions covered in this audiobook include:

Very good report too of a Vietnam War. Correct interpretation.I like it all very informative, I have lived through it all, it only proves that politicians do not care for the people they serve.

Any additional comments?

A Captivating Guide to the Second Indochina War a very well written. Seldom it's better to go quickly through major events in History to get the bigger picture and see the forest for the trees so to speak. This book will present that for you.

understanding Why & What

A Captivating Guiden of Vietnam War is a great book! I fully suggest this to anyone who is a history buff, and mainly to people that lived during this era.

Pieces of knowledge

An excellent summary of a complex topic. Use this as the starting point for more detailed research if necessary. For me, it included what I needed to know.

Easy to understand and very informative.

After listening to this book I realize a little better why I didn't know much about the war and why we were there in the first place - we weren't thought to know! Too bad we can't seem to learn from our errors. Easy to understand and very informative.

All sides of Vietnam

I imagined this book does an excellent job of explaining how the war in Vietnam commenced years before the US arrived when the US was there and their policies, and the result. Also gives a view from not only the US but other nations and Vietnamese citizens.

the book is great

My only issue with listening to this book was that historical figures/great people are only really begun once and there are no suggestions about who they are after. At first, it was hard to re-find where some people were first opened to tell myself who they were, but then I learned Google survives. Aside from that small issue, the book is great.

The French/American Disaster

This is a great sketch of the unfortunate attitude of French and American decisions that led finally to the horror of the American War on Vietnam. The dreadful (and silly) loss of life, as well intended by this fast-paced book, was mostly attributable both to powerful Western hubris, and a sad series of wrong decisions made on the basis of this hubris and of usual ignorance.

Very eye-opening and informative.

Originally, I believed this book was mainly about the U.S.'s involvement in the Vietnam War. Of course, it is, though there's history prior to this event that is solid as well, mainly, the reflection of the French. The Vietnamese, as you will discover, are a very hard-working and resilient people; seriously underrated in their skills. Very eye-opening and informative.

Any additional comments?

I liked very much the author's style, typical for a writer that had lived all the events described in this book. This is so the most comprehensive book about this war, full of first-hand accounts.

An excellent honest description of Vietnam. To me, it is a good book for every Veteran who served. Surely, it would give each of us a better opinion of events and actions in the world the last sixty-eight years.

Very factual

Any additional comments?

I suggest this book and the politically unreliable guide to Vietnam. We must start teaching the youth of this country what really passed and give the men who fought the respect and honor they so truly deserve.
