This book is about how draftees in the later stages of the Vietnam War survived and what they experienced when they returned home. The overwhelming majority of them were infantry soldiers who are those most at risk in war and who, therefore, sustain the majority of casualties. It is also about a five year program to develop junior noncommissioned officers for the infantry mostly from the ranks of draftees. Despite their youth and inexperience these noncoms served with distinction and honor. The soldiers discussed in this book all served in the 35th Infantry Regiment which has a long and distinguished history in World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan, and Iraq. I appreciate that virtual voice allows me to hear stuff that no on will hire a reader for but it is really distracting when it cannot handle military jargon and terminology.

In this book it reads picture captions,....haltingly.

Interesting book but it is quite dry when letters to his parents are read.
